I wish it were different, but UNLV is a third-rate insitution with third-rate student and faculty. It will remains so for decades to come. Good faculty will come, stay for a little while and move on to states were education and intellectual exploration and output are valued.
Do you find it odd the Regent Cedric Crear - the only African-American on the board - was the only regent quoted on this article? How can this be? Unless, he was the person who engineered the removal of Ashley, and I doubt it. This is not unusual with corporations who will designate a minority or female to be a spokesperson to defend the organization when a socially unacceptable action has been taken. If you doubt me, watch out when next time such things occur.
Training and educating children for the future involve major sacrifices on the part of any serious and informed parent. While there some public school teachers in CCSD and in Nevada as a whole who are unqualified and lacked the skill to be good teacher, most are qualified and enthusiastic about teaching and learning. Part of the problem is that they have not been given the freedom to be innovative by administrators, who have never been in the classroom, and who are interested in juggling number to look good before Nevada's ignorant politicians. It is important for parents who are truly concerned about their children's education and career to make whatever sacrifice they can to help them learn and acquire the necessary skills for post-secondary education. More importantly is necessity of getting your children out of this state the moment they finish their high school. Many states around Nevada have more rigorous and useful college experience. We have California, Utah, Arizona, and others where education is taking seriously. The choice is yours.
"I'm not running for president," Ensign told the Sun. "Let me say that in very clear terms."
Translation: Make no mistake about it. I am running for president.
I wish I could agree with steve7952 that "this is an example of the ugliness, insensitive and a curel third world mentality of some of it's citizens." In my travels through the third world rarely did I observe this sort of meanness as displayed by some of the members of this first world community of Las Vegas.
This is one of th few times, since I moved into this valley thirty-two years ago, that the Nevada Legislature (NL) has done something worthy of note. The NL in casting this vote very important vote is holding up to its constitutional duty to safeguard the health and well-being of the citizens of Nevada. This will represent a blow to those in the medical and insurance industry whose only interest is to profit from the carcass of helpless people.
For the health insurer, devise means of having the premium of a doctor reflect his/her medical mishaps. This is how we pay for our automobile
insurance. Stop the notion of group penalty that you current impose on doctors. Reward the good doctors with lower premium and bad ones with higher malpractice premium. I am not a lawyer and lawyers are not the problem, but part of the solution.
The stage is now set for O.J. convinction. It is set up so that his escape is impossible. Even the best lawyer cannot get him out. It is a done deal.
I am happy that Lorraine Marshall is voting her conscience and for McCaine. She should praying hard that she does not loose her job nor experience serious health problem under McCaine Administration. The bankrupt philosophy of every body to himself which the McCaine group espouses is what has almost brought this country to its knees.
This is a State that does not always vote its interest. It would not surprise me if it does it again. You may loose your home this time around, not just your job. You wanna vote for McSame. Make haste!

Do not be surprised if Senator Ensign gets re-elected. Morality has no place here. You can see that with the people we have running things around. Good people do not last long here. We have a lot of scumbags here and loving it. Once you have money, you got it made here. So, do not bet against him.
