artswanson,

Heather Murren indeed lives in Las Vegas; She is cofounder, chairwoman and CEO of the Nevada Cancer Institute.

When you read the line of the story, "Murren's wife, Heather, also a high-powered Wall Street analyst, had never even been to Las Vegas," that was in reference to the point in time that Jim Murren was joining MGM Mirage.

Randy, we considered the issues you raised, and here is why we published the story.

The hospital knew something of this leak for months and did not take any significant action. The chairman of the hospital's board of trustees knew specifics of the leak for about 10 days and took no significant action to stop it.

Meanwhile, there's reason to believe that, day after day, private patient information is being leaked from the hospital. This puts the public at immediate risk. The hospital did not decide to take aggressive action until the Sun made inquiries.

As for seeking a headline that would turn us a profit, I note that you're reading the story online - for free.

Planet earth,

I need to stop reading some of these comments because they frustrate me so with their misinformation and insinuation.

What do you mean by "third world medical care"? The doctors participating in the visa program have Nevada medical licenses. They are as technically proficient as home-grown doctors.

And the program is intended to promote health care in areas where there are not enough doctors. Are you suggesting that we should turn our backs on foreign-born doctors who are willing to work in underserved areas and have Nevada medical licenses?

At issue, as this article explains, is how these doctors are being exploited by local employers.

Tom

Planet earth,
Does political bias have to taint everything you say? Just wondering, because as the story points out, it was Sen. Reid who sought the investigation from Homeland Security, which is now underway. So I'm not sure what your point is.

Dear AKQJ10,
The Sun has reported previously about the thousands of MGM Mirage employees who are transferring from their current properties to CityCenter, and how the company is backfilling their old jobs with new hires.

The focus of this story is how, in this recession, previously employed folks who have been out of work are finding work with the opening of CityCenter.

Hey vsestini,

Your comment indicates you aren't prepared to engage in thoughtful ideas and feedback.

You say this program is a waste of time and then you criticize the district for not being "creative, innovative and inventive." So I'm guessing you didn't even read the story.

Comments ought to be on-point and advance the discussion.

lv_spiff, BINGO! I think it's about study skills, of students lacking the discipline to read material that is not discussed in class but is still part of what will be tested.

I am betting incoming freshmen are ill-prepared for tests that exam their full sweep of knowledge of the material versus what was just discussed in the classroom.

If that IS the shortcoming, how best address it? Encourage high school teachers to test information that's in the reading material versus just what's discussed in class.
