That's a tough one. I don't envy the committee members.

God bless her. There are a number of ways to impact the political process. She can and should stay involved.

The entire family is a class act. May his memory live on. Jamie was a good man. I will miss him dearly.

All mobile billboards should be required to run on electric or some other type of clean fuel. They also should pay a congestion tax for clogging up the roads.

Jim Rogers could learn quite a bit about succession planning from the Cancer Institute. What a classy article and even classier institution.

Best of luck to all parties.

I'm a democrat, but I am not going to overreact to this. I didn't vote for the Senator, but he is a decent person and did a bad thing. Let's not crucify him. Was it boneheaded yes. But from my opinion he has handled it well as opposed to lying to everyone about it. Right now he controls the story and has resigned from leadership.

I feel sorry for his family and children, but this too shall pass.

Gibbons on the otherhand is a complete idiot and has no business holding elective office.

I respect Ensign for at least making an attempt to influence the intellectual thought process of his party and advancing in leadership to raise the stature of the state.

The ballot box in the next cycle will be the determinant.

How does the Chairman let all of this air out in public and in the press?

This doesn't instill confidence in the institution.

After reading the specific emails sited here, some of her technical points are valid regarding budget etc. However the tone of her email is completely off base. Speaking in third person is never a good look, it just screams "I am a megalomaniac, and I will cry if I want to"

Complaining to a University employee about the earnings you forgave for your husband to take the new role is not appropriate along with any other type of commentary about the pay scale of public employees who in many cases could be earning much more in the private sector.

Take this as a teaching moment and adopt my 3 T's of communication:

Tone
Tact
Timing

Mrs. Ashley, minor tweaks in your communication style may reap you and our community great rewards as the content of your message is often correct; however, the character in which you deliver it is not in line with what is needed from leadership.

Sidenote:
Take a lesson from Lois Tarkanian, the true first Lady of UNLV... run for office and don't tell the waterboy how many cups to fill for the games. She has developed a legacy of her own ,independent of her husbands, and will be remembered for her lasting contributions to the community.

Bdover,

Seriously? a headline in the LA Times? I'm a die hard rebel fan and have been since birth, but the guy is still a kid for crying out loud. Try to put this in context of his real life.

Victor
"Never let someone else's opinion of you become your reality"

"A bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn"

If in fact you do go the JUCO route, UNLV has a long history of welcoming JUCO transfers into the program including:

Larry Johnson
Shawn Marrion
JR Rider

If you decide UNLV is not the place for you, best of luck in your future endeavors and I hope and pray that you find a spot and more importantly your own way someplace.

The Pilots are 30-0 this year and they along with the rest of the Vegas community is appreciative of your efforts. I sincerely encourage you to make amends if not with your coach then your teammates. You all did something special this year and it would be a shame for you not to be able to look back fondly at this experience.

So the entire Valley should not move forward on a critical infrastructure project because the Senator owns 5 acres close to the proposed rail line? Let's try to put this in context.

Schneider will be termed out long before anything ever happens to this project.

This whole discussion is nothing more than "intellectual masturbation". The state is so far under water with it's basic service needs that any spending to acquire land on a project of this nature is at least a decade away.

Seriously, we are contemplating cutting Higher Ed Funding by 30% this year and you show a graphic adjoining this article with a proposed UNLV campus in North Las Vegas? My point is this project along with that UNLV project is a long ways away, if they ever happen?

Is there need for disclosure? Yes
Does this topic warrant front page billing on the Sun? No
Is this the best example of conflict of interest within the legislature? No

Has Phoenix, Denver and Los Angeles benefitted from a light rail system? Yes

Were there unintended beneficiaries of these projects? Probably

Would you rather have the Chairman of the Committee on Transportation, Energy and Infrastructure say, "Although I am responsible for Transportation, Energy and Infrastructure legislation in the Senate, I am not going to work to do anything that relates to my committee because I own a couple of parcels of land that could be benefit from development in 20 years if I still own it.... so let's just hope everything works out with this whole renewable energy thing and I will just ride out my term."

Give me a break. We have had enough real criminals in this town that we do not need to disparage decent people by some trumped up conflict of interest story.

Full disclosure:
I know the Senator, my parents live in his district and I played football with his son in high school.
