dodgerchuck: Yep, the band will be performing in full make-up for their Las Vegas show, with the vast majority of the songs in the setlist from the "Destroyer" era and before.

Here is a link to Allison's "more adult" Halloween happenings in Las Vegas, on the Las Vegas Weekly site:

It was a spammer ad for a mortgage site, or something like that. Had nothing to do with John's post.

You know, I was reading this story about Top Chef and I was thinking the exact same thing about Harry Reid. What a weird coincidence!

This doesn't seem like a "no comment" weather story.

Peter can come for hamburgers, too. I'll wear my clown suit.

Our Linn -- Yes, I can explain that. That, also, is my fault.

Brian Greenspun gives me grief all of the time for not allowing comments on his columns. I disabled them because the comments on his columns rarely were about his columns.

When we did allow comments on his columns, they often focused on things completely personal and completely unrelated to topic he had written about. They were mostly just name-calling.

And when you delete a comment like that, it looks like we're just being jerks. Especially since it wasn't Brian Greenspun who would delete those comments -- it was usually me. But folks always thought it was Brian.

If it were just well-worded dissenting opinions, the comments would be back on his columns in a second. We're all for people having discussions.

As it says to the right of the box where you can submit comments:

"Our goal is not to limit the discussion, but rather to elevate it. "

And to us, "elevated" doesn't mean you have to agree with our columnists, even the columnists who own this newspaper.
:)

To us, "elevated" means you're responding intelligently and asking pertinent/thoughtful questions that further the discussion.

I've got a deal for the regular posters/visitors to this site: If any of you would like to get together and talk about how we can make this site better, more relevant, easier-to-use, etc..., I will buy the hamburgers and Cokes.

Dave doesn't remove or disable the comments on our weather stories. I do. Blame me.

They were removed because of a part of our posting agreement that says comments should basically be on topic, not be superfluous, and should elevate the discussion.

Comments that just say "no comment" hardly add to the discussion.

Even when our weather stories basically just say that it is going to be hot in Las Vegas, those stories are still typically this web site's most-read, and that's because people find the weather (even when it's normal) to be interesting. There is a reason why the local television newscasts dedicate so much of their airtime to the weather -- people are interested in that information.

Also, one of the great attributes of an online news site is that reading every story is completely opt-in; you make the choice to read or view something on a news site by clicking on the link.

Our suggestion for folks who don't like our "it's-going-to-be-hot-in-Vegas-today" weather stories is to no longer read our weather stories when the headline implies it is going to be hot.

Otherwise, I think we've basically decided that if a group of folks want to post "no comment" on our weather stories, what does that hurt?

In fact, I've tried to beat you to the punch a couple of times in the last week.
