I see the proposed cuts from the colleges and universities, but what about the NSHE system administration? Surely all those chancellors, vice chancellors, assistant vice chancellors, deputy vice chancellors, system lawyers and so on can afford to give up some of their perks and six figure salaries. How much money is being taken off the top by the suits before it even gets to the schools? And how many tens of millions of dollars are being funneled into the system computer center hole?
This really, really bugs me! John Ralston may be the only person in the state that gets the fact that state employees and local govt. employees are very different people. Local govt employees are represented by unions, don't pay into PERS, and generally make MUCH higher salaries than state employees. State employees by law, cannot have collective bargaining, must pay into PERS, and generally are paid 80% or less of the salaries of local govt. workers. For some jobs, such as Firefighter, state employees may only make 30%-50% as much as local govt employees.
You people on these rants about OVER PAID PUBLIC EMPLOYEES don't have a clue. State and NSHE employees aren't union, and sure aren't overpaid. It's your Clark County and city employees who rake in the huge bucks with fat union contracts. Here's an example, a Clark County firefighter makes a 100,000 + salary. A state of Nv. wild land firefighter makes about $12 an hour and works in much rougher conditions.
If you want to rant about public employees, fine, just rant about the correct ones.
I gotta ask, why would this dude give up his stash to a security guard? Just tell that rent a cop to bite it and leave.

One simple question. What happens when the session ends and there is no budget approved? Does the state govt. shut down? Do employees get paid in vouchers instead of money (like Ca. did)? Is everyone laid off? Anyone know?
