So Pam Jenkins is under the impression she owns the rights to the word "cupcakery"? In all 50 states?
I think Betty Crocker and Duncan Heines should sue her.

According to NV Labor Commissioner:

Nevada is an "employment-at-will" state, meaning that an employer may terminate the relationship at any time and without any reason. The employer cannot discriminate based on sex, race, color, national origin, age, religion, or disability.

IMO, if you are a non-smoker as am I, don't go looking for work where people normally smoke.
As far as dining, this town has no shortage of fine restaurants where one can escape 2nd hand smoke.

Employers are responsible for providing a safe work environment during the hours worked; not for guaranteeing personal health.

Read the second story in the Sun Archives (date: 4/29/09). It's very interesting the tremendous list of benefits the IAFF has garnered for it's membership.
I believe all other local union benefits pale in comparison. I guess it's about the risk to life?

Interesting comment/stats Mike.
Makes me wonder what kind of homeowners insurance people in Gardnerville are paying.
Probably less than me in Green Valley Ranch, if I were to guess at the math.

I'm not so sure I'm buying in to the passenger use numbers the website is quoting.
I'm in San Diego twice a month. I want to say this is a great idea; but I wouldn't use this train...
Who wants to be in LA with no wheels? And a rental car isn't cost effective.

Thanks for that post Emmo. Truly enlightening.
It makes me wonder why then does the republican majority encourage allowing the illegal immigrants to come here to work the jobs that lazy Americans won't when the result is the welfare state they despise as a party. I understand being pro-business (low labor costs), but the cost to society and all taxpayers is much more to bear.

I can only hope that the elected officials in Carson City will quickly figure out a way for NV to earn a bit of sustainable cashflow for the use of these lands. But this story reads like they're trying to come up with the absolute greediest way possible to squeeze an industry that is going create so much more than a job or ten.
And, is energy a "good" or a "service"? Seems like a "service" to me; certainly isn't tangible, though the results of it are.

As a NV resident for the better part of 39 years, I'm always dissapointed when NV voters go to the booth and support a tax increase of any sort. I've sat in on meetings to discuss these increases and the only folks supporting are those that have moved here fairly recently from their former high tax state.
They moved here to enjoy the lower cost of living, but they fail to understand what we need to do to maintain that benefit. That, or they think they don't mind paying a bit more, as long as it's less than what they paid in their former state.
I MIND!!

I'm not usually a devotee of the Chamber... But this is the most logic I've read so far.
More transparency and trimming of 'choice' fat if you want to raise my already high (IMO) taxes.
We'll all pay in the end if the State cuts from schools.
