I can bet my last dollar that if what Mr. George Burns said above is true " he said, adding the bank had to be closed because of inadequate capital and mounting loan losses", then the whole banking system is ready to go down. Elko County has the best economy in the WEST. Las Vegas, Reno Area and of course California has tremendously higher percentages of loan losses then Elko County. Everyone is still working in Elko County (Mining)and no one that I know as any bad loans. Something is up.
Nice job Mayor Montandon. I'll vote for you if you bring some of that logic to Carson City. Like balancing a checkbook, facts are facts. How would like to loan your Northern Neighbor a few million for a project or two? Better up here then letting Goodman get a hold of it on the "Mob Museum". What a turkey.
Any energy source by any power company must have (and does have) capital cost for transmission lines. That is exactly why the only current economic energy sources avaliable are dominated by non-solar and non-wind companies. I wish it wasn't so either, but that is the hard cold dollar facts. Like jfinance32 says, if you can make wind and solar economic by producing solar power 12 hrs a day and producing wind power on windless days, and pay for all the infrastructure to transmit that power then lets start building. Would you buy an electric car without a driveline?
John Walsh with national coverage will make all the States look like fools if they don't back up this Act. Many the Mob museum will loan the State money for protecting our Children from sexual predators. Or Harry's 9 billon dollar train from no where.
Great story Cy Ryan and "Sun"! Who gives a crap?
Ensign was worried about his re-election. That's why he has separated himself from Harry Reid and the Southern Republicans (one in the same). Now he is doing his job and trying to get a little money for the North before the South spends it on the important projects, like the "Mob Museuum" and landscaping your freeways.
Not that I'm defending anyone, but the Governor has only been in office for a couple of years and you all make it sound like this Yucca Mountain fight has been his responsiblity from the beginning. The same comments are coming from Chancilor Rogers. When you all mis-manage funds all you can do is complain and blame the guy above you and try to sway opinion away from yourselfs. Its kind of a grade school game for adults that some adults use as a hobbie. Here is the facts. The State is running out of money. The Federal government is running out of money. The Governor can cut the cost of the high paid lawyers that have been hired to fight against the Yucca Mountain Project, or cut the State School Budget or cut State Jobs or some other part of the budget that will really hurt Nevada. Or he can sit back with his hand out to the Federal Government, take that money and then spend it to fight the Federal Government with their (you and our kids tax money) own handouts. Kind of goes in a circle. So just relax, Yucca Mountain will never happen, but it won't be because the State of Nevada stopped it. It will be because the Federal Government ran out of money. I hope our grandkids are a smarter bunch. This generation will never come to agreement on how to get rid of nuclear waste. Unless it will all fit up all the lawyers rears.
Those costs are not going to cover those roads. Everything has skyrocketed. Cost of concrete will be 4 times that amount. Politicans are also famous for underestimating. The purpose of upgrading roads? For tourists, for driving to work, for going to Curcuit City to buy a new TV? Tourist industry is down 15%, unemployment is up and Curcuit City is shutting down. Harry, lets use that money to build some cheap electrical power! Or hiring someone to obtain a better electrical rate contract, like Eureka County.
We all know Obama would promise to do anything to get Nevada votes. If the reward is big enough, people who want control will trade anything. Now if Obama would of promised to get rid of Reid, even I would have voted for him. Okay, thats stretching it a little. Scientific facts are facts, Yucca Mountain is the safest option. Nuclear waste being stored in industrial parking lots all over the nation is not safe. Can the EPA produce documents of where ALL of this hazardous nuclear waste is currently stored? That is what everyone should be concerned about. It could be blocks from your house.

Who wrote this Editorial? Why does the "LA Sun" keep repeating stories over and over again? Everyone already has hashed through this before. Thats why newspaper sales are down, there is nothing new to read. Waste of money.
