Agree with Siromega. It looks like humongo squid are McMenamin's theory for just about everything, and his theory here fails completely in the required scientific criterion of falsifiability. Mr. Schwartz is better than this.

Another much better examination of the theory:

If the main criterion is "within driving distance", how do Capital Reef and Petrified Forest get a mention and Joshua Tree and Sequoia/King's Canyon don't?

Hey, Las Vegas Sun, this guy can write pretty well. You ought to think about hiring him, and maybe he could write a sports column or something.

"Still not sure how something banned in federal law could be passed at state level, but that is one of many questions sure to be raised."

The feds have jurisdiction only if business crosses state line. If people in Nevada gamble at online casinos in Nevada using a computing infrastructure that resides in Nevada, and all this is legal in Nevada, then the Feds have no beef.

Congrats to the All-Star Band. Their shows are undoubtedly the best music deals in Las Vegas. They're every bit as good as any top name concert, for free. Best wishes on another 20 years.

First the Sun fires some of the best reporters on its staff, now it hires some new reporters to fill the gaps they created. If the Sun wants to impress me, though, they'll bring back Jeff Haney.

I am not an employee of the Tropicana, nor am I affiliated with the Culinary Union, just in case anyone suspects me of either. Las Vegas deserves better than Columbia Sussex. I applaud Jeff Simpson for tenaciously following this story. Please keep up your good work.
