With all the outstanding claims to be resolved, you have to wonder how Sandy is paying her lawyers. In silver dollars, maybe? Gee, can't imagine where they might have come from. Either that, or maybe she has a new Rick. Lawyer Rick, that is....
I have heard a lot of good things about South Point, too, Boris. I know a lady who has a black players card (President) at Stations, and she was so P.O.'d at the changes at Stations, all for the worse, that she gave the Point a try, and loved it. Now she is slowly using up her points at Stations at the restaurants-no more slot play. Maybe they need to hire a Gaughan to show them how to run a casino...
Marnell is really hoping he can steal customers from Green Valley Ranch down the street. Based on the locals complaints about the tightened slots and lesser comps at GVR, he may get lucky. Stations is in big trouble, and even with Greenspuns money at GVR, the future is shaky for both casinos. And that foolish blimp floating around the Valley sure won't make a difference....
Let's remember too that once you get a sales tax increase, it is almost always, and I mean always in place forever. As our economy tanks and tanks, you can be sure that your 1/4% increase will stay in effect. Forever. And despite the extreme economic downturn, you can be sure that you will also see cruisers parked in the back of PT's. Daily, nightly. Welcome to Redneck Hell...
Funny. They're blaming the third party inspectors for not catching improperly installed rebar? Anybody wonder if the Union layabouts who actually misplaced the steel might have some liability? Nah, in this town, it's who you know or...
Henderson, that crime-ridden hell hole. Not. Didn't I read we have 306 cops in a relatively docile town? Have you ever NOT seen at least 2 cruisers, usually Tahoes, at every roadside stop? So they need more well paid under worked employees sucking up huge pension benefits at our expense. More Luke Morrison Ice Cream killers on the loose? I'd say the chief has big cajones, but I'm not sure of the gender version. What a disgrace....
dbltrbl hits the nail on the head. This town is run by the state/city unions and their publicly elected butt-boys. In Henderson, they achieved the impossible-they ran out of projects to approve. So they laid off the inspectors, checkers and so forth. Right? As my old boss said years ago, "They'd stamp your d**k to keep their sorry jobs." Nah, see the article where they were all melted into the "Redevelopment Agency", whatever that is. So now there will be even more public "workers" acting like they have a real job, when in truth they should be out on the street, looking for work. For sure, if this economic free fall continues, it will be hilarious to watch them stick it to their co-workers to keep themselves working, since their greatest fear is having to work in the DPS-the "Dreaded Private Sector".
At The Harmon, "they ... installed it wrong. That's the bottom line," said Ron Lynn, Clark County Building Division chief. "They made a mistake."
So this would indicate the Union goofs read the plans wrong? Or did the structural engineer miscalculate the spacing or grade of the rebar? Either way, this is a critical mistake that would normally end up in court, but in this town, nobody-inspectors, engineers, workers-will be held liable. Just another Union led "Don't kill the job" campaign.
Note that MGM is still looking for money to complete the project, so this might be a convenient way to cut costs. With 4 or 5 thousand condos to sell in this rotten economy, they know they're in trouble.
"One of the things I would hate to see would be for the City of Henderson to be penalized for being efficient with its money and having an excellent staff."
Ellen-
Lay off enough people to meet your budget, and let the taxpayers struggle with a less "efficient" staff. Maybe then, we won't have a joke that is Lake Las Vegas and a foolish downtown "arts district" that is a complete waste of money. The City of Henderson is nothing but a money pit, complete with enablers like you. Remember, when you are defeated in your quest for re-election, you can always get a job leaning on a shovel-or a pencil-with your beloved City of Henderson. And I'm sure you'll be able to get a discount on your new condo at Vantage Lofts-another City supported debacle.

Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson took contributions from LandWell, and others, around the time of a critical vote.
The LandWell Company donated $5,000 to Gibson's campaign on Dec. 14, just one day after the Henderson City Council voted to push through a land annexation of old BMI property near downtown. (LandWell owns the remaining interests of land used for the World War II-era factory.) And it seems no coincidence that Real Homes, the local division of Centex Homes, donated $5,000 to Gibson on Dec. 29. Centex Homes is planning to build residences on the BMI property, once the contaminated soil has been cleaned up.
Please click on or paste the following link. This stinks of cronyism and political corruption run amok. We are in big trouble, people. BTW, the mayor presented and pushed the approval through a compliant city council. Mamma mia....
