First amnesty doesn't work, Regan did it and it didn't stop the illegal immigration. I fact I think it made it worst. Why wouldn't you sneak into the country if you know that a few years down the road you would be given amnesty for breaking the law? We all know all the problems with illegal's, crime, gangs, welfare abuse, and health care and so on. That last sentence make me sound like a racist bigot, I don't mean for it to but a lot of people feel and think this about illegal immigrants. It comes down to if you broke the law to get into this country, you should be sent home.
What makes Americans really angry is something like this. True story, happen to my family when we lived in southern California in 1993. My son was in the 3rd grade and not doing well in school. I called the school and asked if they could recommend a tutor for my son, the school said that they could not do that. Then they asked if we spoke Spanish, I said no, the school said that that was to bad. Because, if we did speak Spanish, not only would they get us a tutor, but sent them to our home at no cost to us. Because I'm a legal citizen I receive less help and or have less rights than an illegal, and the government doesn't get why were tick off!
If Station has extended the vote that can only mean that the vote hasn't gone their way. If I was a bond holder that had just been offered 10 cents on the dollar, and knowing that Boyd's offer was out there I wouldn't give them a yes vote. Even with a better offer from Station, I think, I would want changes in upper management.
I like Las Vegas, but I hate high room rates, it cuts into my gambling money. I remember the first time my wife and I came to Las Vegas in 1982. We stayed at the Landmark and had all 3 days comped for our play, and we were not high rollers by any means. If the casinos think that after a couple of years that they will get to gouge the tourist again their going to be disappointed. This recession is going to be a life style changing event. I don't think people will be willing to max out their credit cards, or tap in to their homes equity for a trip to Vegas. Not the middle class, and there are more of us than rich people. The rooms will probably have to stay under $100 a night most likely closer to $60 a night. The casinos in Las Vegas need to come to grips with the fact that high priced rooms and sad comps equals me going to my Native American full service casino that is 30 minuets from my front door. In October I took my wife to Vegas for her Birthday, I drop $400 a one crap table on the strip, and was never once offered a drink. This is more the norm for vegas than the exception. God help you if you go to the bar to get a beer, I could buy a 12pak for what I was charged! Good luck in filling all those new rooms.
It's both the Democrats and Republicans fault; I believe it was President Clinton that relaxed the standards for qualifying for loans with Fanny May and Freddy Mac. Theirs more than enough blame to go around! Don't fool yourself in thinking this administration is the second coming. They will sell us out just like the last administration for big time comps down the road. Make no mistake the politicians in Washington D.C. don't give a rat's ass about the average Joe, its big business and financial intuitions that fill their bank accounts.
Boyd's and Stations are competitors for the local's in Las Vegas market, and they haven't always played nice with each other. This move by Boyd's is brilliant, thou some what cutthroat. It is a win win situation for Boyd's, and a loser Stations. Here they thought that they were going to reduce their debt by pennies on the dollar at the expense of their bond holders. Then to add insult to injury the Fertitta's would maintain their control of Station Casino's. So here comes Boyd's with an offer to buy most of their casinos, which is a better offer than what Station management offered. Now many analysts are telling the bond holders not to except this offer from Station, because a better offer is out there, because of Boyd's offer. So, if Station had accepted the offer, their presents would have been reduced in local market and Boyd's would have been increased. That's a win for Boyd's. Now Station's management will have to sweeten the deal for their bond holders, or maybe forced in to some kind of sell off by the bond holders. Bottom line Station Casinos are not getting out of debt as cheap as they hoped. Once again Boyd's wins.
Oh yes, you have advantages, a system that allows a company to dispose of workers that have been hurt on the job. Now that's something to be proud of.
I hope the casinos are correct about a quick rebound for the economy; I don’t want to see the workers laid off. However I don’t think things will get better very soon, fuel is going up and I don’t think it is ever going to come back down. I don’t think our jobs will give us raises that will keep up with the rising cost of gas. Here’s another problem that will slow our recovery, we are a nation of consumers not a nation of producers. Where is our industry it overseas, we don’t make anything that other countries want to buy from us. So how are we going to recover?
First off united777 the airlines offer free rides’ for flying X amounts of flights or miles so it just happens that Las Vegas is a prime destination for a little vacation. I assume that there are a lot of free rides to Hawaii and Florida too. However, everyone is missing the point. Fuel is going up, and it’s not going to come back down. This affects everything; all the essentials of living are going up. Disposable income is gone! It is now spent to get you to work, feed your family, heat or cool your home and hope like hell that your job isn’t paid for by disposable income. Airline tickets have to go up to pay for the fuel increases the problem is that we won’t be able to afford to fly, were not going to have the money to do it. Las Vegas is a luxury, and luxury is one of the first things to go when you’re worried about surviving. Bad times are ahead, I wish you all well.
As with so much in life the rich are preferred over us common folk. But can the rich really sustain the strip all on their own? I don’t know maybe they can, and that’s too bad. I would like to stay on the strip but, I just can’t get by those room rates, $100 - $200 a night rooms sometimes more. First it sure cuts in to the old bankroll, second I didn’t plan to spend that much time in the room. Makes our local Indian casino look a lot more attractive. I can’t help but think that Macau is going to pull a lot of the Asian visitors away. I know that some are saying that this will cultivate more Asians to come to Vegas. How do they figure that will happen I suppose the very rich will still come. But if I was a upper middle class business man why would I spend all those hours flying and all that money for one trip to Las Vegas when I could go 2 or more time to Macau. Vegas better be careful that they don’t price themselves out of business. A lot of states are allowing Tribal Gamming and many are up grading everything and it is costing their costumers about 1/3 of what it is in Las Vegas.

We need to bring back flogging. I don't think jail time or making them clean up graffiti will faze them much. If you administer severe pain that will get their attention. First offence 10 lashes with a cat of nine tails, add 5 lashes for each additional offence.
