I am truly amazed that the writer cannot tell the difference between China exporting TOY'S - in which the hazardous waste is hidden within the paint, fabric or other materials of which the TOY is made AND which we in the U.S. have specific laws regarding this materials - and SCRAP computer boards in which the hazardous materials are NOT hidden - and are KNOWN to exist!
If a country CHOOSES to not pay attention - and CHOOSES to ignore known safety procedures - in regards to a KNOWN hazerdous materials - just how is it that this is OUR fault?
According to the GOD of the far left - Al Gore - “America must commit to producing 100% of our electricity from cheap, clean renewable energy sources, like solar and wind, within 10 years.”
Well Al…it’s a nice sentiment - but like most, you don’t have a clue on:
(a) How to do it, without ruining the U.S. economy
(b) How to get it done with out all the rest of your tree hugging friends getting in the way!
Al, how many examples do you need? California won’t allow transmissions lines from a wind farm to where it’s needed, the Kennedy’s don’t want a wind farm off the coast of Hyannis port because it ruins their views, 140 acres of government land will supply 33% of the electrical requirements of the Nellis Air force base! That’s ONE THIRD of the electrical needs of an Air force base - how many acres of land would it take to run a small city - say the size of Boulder City? Never mind Las Vegas!!!!!
The technologies are NOT the problem - oil, gas, coal, nuclear, solar, hydro, Geothermal etc…THEY are the solutions - singularly and in combination. The problem are people who insist that ONLY their way is the solution - and that no other way should even be considered - and only idiots would try!
Well, Mr. Gore, you may have a few statues in your back pocket - but the one thing you are obviously lacking is common sense. Guess it aint so common afterall!
Of course, these are just thoughts - but they are mine
Mudsling?
It seems that the Sun and it’s editors have a slightly myopic view on what is what is not mudsling! You complain about a third party throwing mud at your candidate – but not your candidate…PERSONALLY throwing his own brand of mud! Huh? Well, Senator Obama himself quotes the “McCain wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years” – implying that he is a war monger – however, he forgets the context in which that statement came from – in that JUST LIKE Germany and Japan – we could be in Iraq for a 100 years or more!
Still not convinced – how about Senator Obama (and Senator Kerry AND our own Senator Reid) – quoting Senator McCain saying that “It is not important WHEN our troops come home…” and end it there – AGAIN – implying he is a war monger, out of touch etc…HOWEVER, Senators Obama, Kerry AND Reid ALL left off the words that followed – in that it “Wasn’t important WHEN they came home – it is the CASUALTIES that are important!” Would the Sun’s editors prefer our men and women coming home quick and in a body bag – or – 100% intact, with heads held high and take a little longer? If our men and women suffered 0 casualties and 0 wounded – would the WHEN really matter? Of course not…
Still not convinced? OK – your own editorial stated that the Iraq war was still dragging on – insinuating that the situation is the same there as it was last year? Maybe you haven’t heard, but last month saw 19 of our brave men and women sacrifice their lives – as opposed to 126 last May! That’s still 19 too many – however, it is a heck of lot better that 126! Where are all your stories about how well our folks are doing in Iraq – you’ve been pretty quiet on that topic since the surge starting working! I’m sure that we are still going to have our ups and downs – but you should be reporting on both – NOT just the downs!
So, some third party yahoo with money kicks up a little dust in the direction of your candidate by telling the truth – but leaving out a few facts that YOU consider important – but you know what’s worse? A news paper in a major metropolitan area doing the same damn thing – and nobody calling them on it! THAT Mr. / Mrs. / Ms. Editor is very sad - your readers should not have to demand the truth be told – YOU should be doing that without being asked – after all you are supposedly a NEWS paper. Of course, your editorial pages should play off of the news – but if you’re going to get into a he said, she said and then make your argument around that – please include the entire “he said or she said.”
Of course, these are just thoughts – but they are mine
Although Mr. Smith is correct in that we did speak to the Soviets – he does forget a little detail called MAD – mutually assured destruction. You see both sides of the table had enough nukes to totally annihilate the other side IN RATLIATION for a first strike.
Both sides had something lose, and both sides didn’t want to lose it – so BOTH sides talked. Do you REALLY believe that the President of Iran believes that he has something lose – or as he as said over and over and over – that Iran ONLY has something to gain to wiping out Israel!
In this sad case – mutually assured destruction is not even a consideration. When this President of Iran finally has his nuclear weapon – he will not be targeted US soil - but at our friends in Israel. THAT is his target, he has said it over and over and over again that the destruction of Israel is only a matter of time, etc…What are the words that will convince him THAT is not a good idea? What are the words that will convince him that the holocaust really happened? What are the words that will convince him that his little pile of sand in the desert will be reduced to mere silica if he dares strike Israel with a nuke?
WHAT are the words that will convince a MAD MAN of the reality of a situation that he refuses to see?

uddeboda - take the chip off your shoulder buddy - it must be very heavy by now ;-/ Since you didn't reference the toys -- I don't know how you could have thought I was writing about you -- unless you have some pent up guilt about this topic.
That said"
You say it is "YOUR FAULT" -- well, I have news for you -- MY first and foremost "duty" or responsibility is to the folks in my family, in my house, on my block, in my city, in my state and in my country. IN THAT ORDER - EVERYBODY else comes later.
So if I might be so bold as to suggest that you take your angst and focus on saving those within eyesight first -- once THAT is done - THEN worry about what their doing in China!
You said"Control EVERYTHING that may damage the environment and the health of the people?
My God are you naive! I have been blessed with having visited quite a few countries in Europe, Asia and even Japan -- and believe me the LAST thing that the everyday folks in those countries want is for outsiders to control what they do and how they do it!
The reason why "WE" -- the U.S. have such a poor reputation around the world is not the fault of any administration -- but the fault of people like you who wish to exert your supposed moral superiority over who you seem to consider as "poor, ignorant" folks who don't know any better! They resent your arrogance, they resent your ignorance of THEIR country and culture, and sovereignty.
You want to save the world? Then start with the people you know about -- and move out from there. Maybe, just maybe by the time you branch out to foreign countries, you will have learned that a little understanding for that which is different, and a healthy respect for that difference goes a long long way.
