It's not like the firefighters here actually fight fires as they do back east. Here they surround and drown to prevent the fire from spreading to a neighboring structure. All they ever save is the foundation. They are just great at PR with their talk of how valiant they are and how nobody can do their job. Yet whenever they announce they are hiring they have thousand of applicants to choose from.
Here's an idea..fire fighters spend 24 hours on duty and most of that time is spent sitting around the fire house waiting for a call. Why not put these prima donnas out doing construction projects for the county and charitable organizations when they are not actively engaged in fighting a fire. Most of them have side jobs doing construction work. If we are going to pay them big bucks...let's get all we can out of them instead of letting them sit around on our dime eating and planning what jobs they will take on their numerous days off. I'd love to have a job where I work 9 days a month and make over $100,000.00 per year.
No matter what they call this, the program is designed to increase the amount of money the City of Las Vegas raises from transporting patients to area hospitals. If law enforcement officers were paid extra cash for every ticket they wrote or person they booked, the citizens and elected officials would be out raged. For the city officials to disengenuously say that these payments were for quality control instead of as a means to raise funds for the city's coffers is truly an outrage.
The owners of the ships who have paid ransoms are the ones reponsible for the increase in piracy. It is the same as negotiating with terrorists. We should send heavily armed disguised freighters into the area and when they are attacked by the pirates, return fire and hang any pirates that aren't immediately killed where others may see the results. This is how piracy off the shores of the USA was handled in the 1700 and 1800s. It was effective then and will be now.
Here's an idea I've never heard before. In our society, people value what they pay for. If it's free they see no value.
Why not charge tuition for all students based on income levels? The payments could be made in cash or via working at their children's school. The funds raised could be split on a per pupil basis to increase teachers salaries. It could not be used for other salaries, only classroom teachers. If there is any left, those funds would be split up to pay for classroom supplies.
If a student is disruptive and has to be expelled, their parents would be required to pay a penalty to return to class. Make the parents be involved in their childs education and you will see immediate improvement.
If she wants to keep her family together, why doesn't she move them with her to her country of origin. I'm tired of the same old excuses that other than entering our country illegally she has done nothing wrong. Entering illegally is doing something wrong. Go home, apply for a visa and get in line with of the rest of the law abiding people who want to come to America.
What's to prevent the person convicted of drunk driving from borrowing and driving another vehicle? Why not make this standard equipment on every vehicle to prevent future drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel? This would stop them before they kill someone and reduce the cost of prosecution.
Here's a novel idea. Why doesn't Dr. Ruffles lead from the front and take a significant paycut? It's insane that he gets paid twice as much as our elected Sheriff. But we can't have that kind of leadership, because it might set an example for others.
Lending money for down payments...isn't this part of what got us in trouble last time? Will they be required to pay PMI on their mortgage or do the banks take the hit when they default? I thought you weren't allowed to borrow your down payment to purchase a home? This is a dumb idea that is going to start the cycle we are on the bottom of all over again. A better idea is to set up tax exempt, interest paying accounts where money is automatically deducted from the employees check, matched by the union and then used for the down payment. That way the money is not a loan and it instills the habit of saving instead of depending on loans to purchase homes.

My daughter started Drivers Ed at Northwest Career and Tecnical Academy this fall. Within 3 weeks the course was cancelled and turned into a PE class. So now I get to spend money on one of those expensive outside courses the article speaks of. I would have paid CCSD to continue the class but of course I was never asked.
