It's not like the firefighters here actually fight fires as they do back east. Here they surround and drown to prevent the fire from spreading to a neighboring structure. All they ever save is the foundation. They are just great at PR with their talk of how valiant they are and how nobody can do their job. Yet whenever they announce they are hiring they have thousand of applicants to choose from.
Here's an idea..fire fighters spend 24 hours on duty and most of that time is spent sitting around the fire house waiting for a call. Why not put these prima donnas out doing construction projects for the county and charitable organizations when they are not actively engaged in fighting a fire. Most of them have side jobs doing construction work. If we are going to pay them big bucks...let's get all we can out of them instead of letting them sit around on our dime eating and planning what jobs they will take on their numerous days off. I'd love to have a job where I work 9 days a month and make over $100,000.00 per year.
No matter what they call this, the program is designed to increase the amount of money the City of Las Vegas raises from transporting patients to area hospitals. If law enforcement officers were paid extra cash for every ticket they wrote or person they booked, the citizens and elected officials would be out raged. For the city officials to disengenuously say that these payments were for quality control instead of as a means to raise funds for the city's coffers is truly an outrage.
The owners of the ships who have paid ransoms are the ones reponsible for the increase in piracy. It is the same as negotiating with terrorists. We should send heavily armed disguised freighters into the area and when they are attacked by the pirates, return fire and hang any pirates that aren't immediately killed where others may see the results. This is how piracy off the shores of the USA was handled in the 1700 and 1800s. It was effective then and will be now.

My daughter started Drivers Ed at Northwest Career and Tecnical Academy this fall. Within 3 weeks the course was cancelled and turned into a PE class. So now I get to spend money on one of those expensive outside courses the article speaks of. I would have paid CCSD to continue the class but of course I was never asked.
