Who "Slim" probably is shouldn't be that hard to figure out. There was a particular person that always was with Andre, shown on TV at matches etc, during this time. That same person may have had some run ins with the law as well. This isn't rocket science...just needs a little investigative journalism...
"Increases in the cost of corrections"- How about the cost cuts to corrections that they implemented in the Phoenix area? Tent camps and PB and Jelly sandwiches ought to bring down costs a bit.
"Medicaid"- Any med student that gets any type of financial aid needs to payback by working in low-income clinics for a couple of years. Keep people that are not in emergency situations out of the ER rooms and we decrease costs right away. What % of medicaid ends up going to care for illegals? I really don't know but figure it ought to be asked.
"and public employee pension plans also are challenging."- Funny how John seems to skip right past commenting on this at all. Much easier to go after the R's to change the tax base. (which of course will lay the groundwork for making it easier to continually raise taxes in the future)
Nobody in the private sector is given a pension anymore. Why is just a given that you get one if you work for the government? In the past you made less salary in government so you had to have the benefits to get anyone worth anything to work for you. That just isn't true anymore. Start fire, police etc at 35k per year w/o pensions and you will still have 1000's show up at each hiring fair.
"The Legislature has diverted unprecedented amounts of local government revenue to balance the state budget."- This was/is a joke and the leadership of the legislature should all lose their jobs over it. (by the way, why didn't John go after Buckley or Horsford about this? Oh yeah according to John its all the Gov's fault)
First you say that the national parties "only hope to take advantage of gullible Fourth Estaters willing to copy and paste their nonsense." and then you go on to say "But not one has provided any details of what should have been done. And when provided with evidence the stimulus is working -- check the stock market lately? -- they simply repeat their talking points."
You just willingly cut and paste the Dems nonnsense. A basic economist can explain the complete disconnect in the stock market and the overall economy. (Is Sands suddenly making huge money? Look at their stock price over the last year.)
The economy is terrible, (how about that unemployment rate?)it is not getting better it's getting worse and you are still carrying the Dems water with their weak talking points.
John you have missed the real question about Sandoval. The question is if Montandon gains because of this.
Montandon is a conservative that has won 3 elections in what is the most liberal municipality in the state. He has proved to be able to get cross-over votes and independents better than anyone in Nevada. He has to be regarded as the most serious of the candidates as a manager (look at North Las Vegas 14 years ago compared to today. Would you have believed it?)
You failed to look at a couple of races where the conservatives did win out. Rawson v Beers where Rawson had everyone onboard that Sandoval does and Beers won and look at Christensen winning in the general in a district that had a 5.5% advantage to the democrats, Obama won the district by 9% and his opponent was able to outspend him by 75k.(I use this race because the district is more like a congressional size with over 100k voters)
Conservatives that are still normal mainstream presentable folks can win in generals! It will be Montandon that benefits as republicans learn more about Sandovals politics.
So why is it that the people we elect are wussing out and hiring consultants to do their jobs? Dont we elect people based on what we think that they can do to make our state what we want? Why do we have the legislature if they are just going to hire other people to tell them what to think?
Lets just go straight to the Czars and skip the whole election thing....All the money that we dump into campaigns and running the elections could pay for all the "visions" they are going to have anyway.
Just sick of hearing about waiting for the "legislative study" on tax structure. Seriously, is there one person that does not know what they are going to suggest? What have the other studies suggested? We spend money just to give the Dem's cover to try to impose a business tax. Rory waiting for those recommendations is just wussing out.
Everyone loves the idea of a diversified economic base but blaiming the costs of our University system is a joke. It is still cheaper for a Californian to come to Nevada for school as an out of state student than for them to pay the in-state tution in Cali.
The idea of a seed fund to bring in tech companies is actually pretty good, why dont we just have it be some form of private/public match (we could start with the million allocated for the tax study) with a non-governmental advisory/investment board.
Regardless, Rory is hosed for 2 reasons. First his dad and second is that non-partisans are going to vote more conservative this next cycle and no matter how much lipstick he puts on he is still a donkey.
"Teaser"and "gmag39"- are you a plantiffs attorneys or what?
The thinking of all the bad things that can possibly happen is exactly what is wrong with our school district. (this same kind of thinking is why the are getting rid of monkey bars, wont let the kids play football or smear the queer or even tag!) The guy has been there for over 20 years. No kids have been hurt in that time. Do you really think that they need to make him go to a CCSD Training Program? what a joke.
Lets spend money that could go into the classroom on someone training people on how to cross a street.
Growing up we, the students, were given the responsibility to be hall monitors and crossing guards. Guess what, nobody was ever hit by a car and we all listened to the hall monitors because we didn't want to get written up. All with a training program consisting of a teacher taking about 30 minutes to explain to us the rules.
Quit making everything so difficult and accept help from people that offer it so kindly.
Find anyone that believes that you actually get better health care in countries that have a "Public Option".
Don't use the red herring about life expect etc. Americans lifestyles are the least healthy in the world and we still have comprable life expects. If you pull that out you will not find anyone flying to Canada or the UK to have a heart transplant, or brain tumor removed. Let us buy insurance across state lines and you reduce costs immediately!
I think that Patty and Rafael either work for the DesertXpress or Reid. Surmoka obviously works for the Maglev so all 3 of their comments are meaningless.
I am a lifelong Nevadan that used to fly to LAX for $49 roundtrip and then hitchhike or take a shuttle to John Wayne airport just to get to Huntington/Newport Beaches on the weekend. I know for a fact that IF you can build the Maglev to Anaheim it will make more money than DesertXpress going into Victorville and having to make connections.
Just take a look at the Vegas monorail for proof that when you build something that doesn't actually go anywhere people need (airport/Victorville)it will end up being a bust.
Does anyone else think it is weird that Harry happened to switch his opinion in line with Sig's during a tough re-election year? Who is the chair of Republicans (RINOs) for Reid? Oh yeah, Sig....
