"The industry surely believes the high court is its backstop on July 1, when the justices — who rarely rule against their main campaign contributors"
The very fact that the argument will not be heard until July 1 is in and of itself the proof that the fix is in. The pompous 7 don't have time before then to hear this matter? That is a crock. Proponents then can spend money to gather signatures that will be thrown out or not have enough time to gather signatures. The Gang of 7 have plenty of time to hear this matter in a timely way. Their casino friends just do not want them to do so. Lastly, it was the gang of 7 that allowed this mess in the first place when they decided that the Constitution which allows iniatives could be amended by a Legislature to protect their casino pals by passing such silly rules as one subject. Why is the government afraid of an up or down vote on the ideas of its citizens? From the public viewpoint and as proven by the iniatives themselves, the govenment doesn't want us to do what they do not have the guts to do-- tax and control thir sacred cow- the casinos.
What a wonderful man. He loved his family, his country and his party; not necessarily in that order. Charlie, you were one of the good ones who still believed, still cared and still understood. You will be missed.
Gee, what a surprise.
Isn't it great when you can have the taxpayers pay for your debt collection? Corporate friendly? Where else will the government pay to extradite, prosecute and incarcerate the debtors of their big corporate bosses? We the taxpayers, pay to screen the casino employees with work cards, then we pay to collect debts for the casinos and we pay higher taxes do that casinos can pay a 6.75% tax here while they pay up to 50% in taxes elsewhere with the money they save because we the taxpayer provide the services. I love the casino industry but really, how much do we have to pay so that these corporations get richer? Mom and Pop's pay for themselves, Why can't the casinos?
These deputies could be prosecuting real cases and let the casinos figure out that they should not lend money to foreign vistors or they should set up offices in China to engage in debt collection.
And isn't it ironic that this prosecutor who has been convicted of DUI and assault would be the one prosecuting others? And isn't it ironic that the head of this department is also the anointed head of the Clark County Republicans? Maybe the corporations he services are just far too grateful.

WOW, how scary. Businesses paying taxes to fix the roads and such. The gaming industry might have to pay taxes as high as 10%. That is so much more than the 50% in New Jersey or the 33% paid in Macau.
First, democrats aren't the only ones who raise taxes. Second, times change. 6.75% in gaming tax is outrageous. The good casinos bring also bring bad such as road destrustion, illegal aliens, school over crowding, hospital use by those workers not in the Culinary Union who do not have insurance, etc. Why not directly contribute to the taxpayers who are subsidizing the casino industry? It is beyond time that the casino's pay a fair share. Since the politicians are owned by the casinos -all three branches of government - we the people have to find a way to correct this mess.
