This is really a tough situation for everyone involved. Habitual problem students who disrupt other students' education need to be dealt with in an appropriate manner: If sent to an alternative education situation, I believe the teachers in charge should have the training to TEACH problem students anger management strategies, ways to modify their behavior, as well as educate them in a way that they can see themselves finding a positive niche in our modern society. Students must also be allowed back into regular ed.for a prbationary period---if they can't handle it, they must go back to be trained again. This will not be easy, but it would be well worth the effort. I must also add that some of these students may need medical help before they can change. If we could invisibly step into some of our students' homes at night, we would probably realize we couldn't handle what these children live through on a daily basis without a support system.

In reference to ZeddyBear's comment---I am not sure what Alternative Education program you have observed, but the ones I have observed are graded, teachers are well trained to handle the unique behavior problems, and they are also trained to teach anger management, behavior modification strategies, and to instill a sense of self-worth. Perhaps a few students won't change, but children are worth the money and effort to positively change their lives forever.
