It is nothing like NASCAR at all and this man certainly is not on cruise control.
All kids can be overachieving. It takes leadership from Principals who motivate, involve and expect excellence from parents, teachers, PTA's, the community and most importantly the kids to bring out the best in each and every one of them.
That is what Mr. O'Dowd does. Did you happen to notice the enrollment at this school, 1029 kids? That is what most Jr. Highs have for enrollment! The schools official capacity is 611. So he runs a school that is 68% over its 9 capacity. It is a year round school that is full of portable trailers on the playground.
The deck is completely stacked against him, but you would never know it. He runs the school like a conductor runs a Symphony.
Way to go Mr. O'Dowd. You deserve this and have earned this award. Contragts on the wedding and have fun in Washington. The kids at Lamping can't wait for you to come back and tell them about your trip.
Thanks for all that you do. The Donovans
I tend to agree. Who is doing the investing and with what capital? I'm glad that my 401K has recovered to the amount of my initial investment, don't get me wrong.
But with 10% unemployment across the natiion, I would think that volume of 401K contributions are down. Companies are not matching anymore so that is less money to the stock market too. Folks that are still employed my have stopped their contributions as cash in hand is a better deal in this economy for those that may lose their jobs. Lets not forget folks who cashed out their 401K's and IRA when they got laid off.
In Vegas, construction workers have a 30% unemployment rate. I'm sure these guys have stopped paying their union dues. Which leaves less money for the Union to invest.
So back to my question, where is the money coming from that is being used as investment money? Is the recovering stock market soley based on leveraging the TARP funds? If so, this won't last long.
how is this going to work?
City Center will add approx. 6,000 rooms
Fountain Bleau adds 3,800 rooms
Planet Hollywoods New Tower Adds approx. 2000 rooms
Golden Nuggets new tower adds 500 rooms
Hard Rock has two new towers adding 900 roooms.
Cosmo adds 2,700 rooms
Ceasars Octavious Tower (finished on the outside but not on the inside) will add 665 rooms.
Assuming all this gets done with the exception of Ceasars Tower (they have said officially they will not finish the rooms) Las Vegas is going to add almost 16,000 new rooms in the next 12 months. That is an increase to the inventory of over 10% while visitors are down 6%.
I do not get it.
gmag39 - you are soooo right. Let CCSD train this guy so he can rank 49th in the country too!!! Yes CCSD really knows how to get things right. You must be kidding me.
As Lvice said, when I was in elementary, in the 80's, 4th and 5th graders had the opportunity to be AAA crossing guards. We received badges and belts and we were the crossing guards. There was a ranking system too. Blue badge entry level and red was LT. if I remember correctly. We were armed with handheld stop signs too. Guess what? No one got hurt.
Plus it taught kids how to be leaders. We were assigned intersections and had to report "on time". It taught the older kids to set examples and be responsible. It taught the younger ones to listen to the older ones and give RESPECT.
Concepts that are slowly being lost in our society by gov't run agencies that want to run 100% of everything.
As a society we didn't get to where we are without fundamental acts such as volunteering. There used to be volunteer fire depts. as an example. But the lawyers came and gov't found it easy to tax and spend as a result.
Now gov't has dwindled it's way into taking crossing guard duties away from volunteers and KIDS that could use the leadership and responsibility opportunity.
What is next, kids can't do the AM announcements and CCSD has to hire someone who is "trained" by CCSD to do that? Perhaps we'll need to hire some people to carry the kids lunch trays to their seats. After all a kid may spill his milk and another kid may slip.
Just stupid.

I wonder why this article didn't mention the charter violation on the table as noted in this article:
http://www.lvrj.com/news/corrective-acti...
Not only did the secret ballot get Ms. March appointed, it appears that second vote that got her officially appointed violates the city charters timeline to appoint. She should be pulled and an election held.
Ms. Boutin has an oppertunity to do what is right. While she can dwell on the past and what she could have done, she can stand up now and do what should be done.
Ms. Boutin, put an item on the agenda to pull Ms. March and have an election to clear up the controversy. Solutions can be simple if you truly want to solve the problems at hand.
