Obviously those of you posting comments don't know a thing about drug addicts and the havoc they wreak upon themselves, the people they love and so on... Vegas_tom states he doesn't get how Eric could have been doped up and dazed but could be thrashing around moments earlier. My ex-husband was a prescription drug abuser and trust me, his behavior could be very erratic. His parents were in denial and my family and friends were confused, because they saw what they wanted to see or only what was on the surface -- they didn't live day in and day out with the addict. My ex physically attacked police officers attempting to subdue him at a mall when his behavior became erratic while shopping for a Christmas gift for me. He apparently popped some pills and had a few drinks and then boom nicest guy in the world turns in to a guy walking around a mall dazed and acting erratically, scaring people who were xmas shopping. At the time of that incident, I thought he was suffering from depression and drinking way too much, so I attributed his erratic behavior to those factors. It wasn't until a few months later when he flipped out and swallowed a bottle of pills in front of me, while screaming like a mad man did I find out about the drugs (there were probably 20 bottles of varying prescriptions from various doctors he saw -- the psychologist for the depression, the orthopedic surgeon for the knee and arm injury, and then whatever doctor he could find to prescribe him drugs). Don't just assume because Eric was by all accounts a nice guy loved by many people that he wasn't a danger to himself and others. I can't even fathom what would have happened had my ex owned or carried a gun. The facts are that Eric had a lethal dose of drugs in his system and was carrying a gun in a store full of people. God only knows what was going through his mind.
I can't believe that there are people posting on here that actually believe that these police officer's just blew this man away for the hell of it. You all act like they are executioners. The man had a gun and apparently didn't use enough common sense to put his hands in the air far away from his gun. I think it's horrible that he lost his life, but you can't blame the police officers for this man's lack of common sense. He had gun in a crowded place, where obviously someone thought there was enough of a threat to call the police. I'm all about the freedom to own and carry a gun, but you have to use sound judgment when you do so. What if this man, who was carrying 2 guns, did start shooting... you would all then be calling these police officer's cowards for not stopping this man when they knew he had a gun. This was a no win situation. I don't think we should all sit back and judge these officers, as you don't know what you would have done had you been in this same situation.
I met with my primary care doctor earlier this week to discuss this very issue, as a small polyp was discovered and removed during my colonoscopy 6 months ago at the location on Shadow Lane. My doctor said that my concerns were not unfounded, as there was an article that had come out on Sunday about the clinic rushing procedures and went on to tell me how she has had patients who had colonoscopies at that facility where it was learned later that the doctors there had missed polyps/cancer (note, she did not refer me there, I had gone there once before back in 2004 before she was my doctor). In any case, she felt that I should have another colonscopy, especially in light of my family history (both my mother and grandmother died from this disease, my mom was 42 when she died). I am in a high risk category and I am almost assured a death sentence if they in fact missed something. I'm hoping the word gets out there that it may be a wise decision to undergo another test if you are one of those that fall in a high risk category. I have spent 17 years educating myself on this disease and having regular preventative screenings so not to suffer the horrible death my mom and grandma did, only to find out that no matter how on top of your care you think you are, that there are doctors out there who care more about money, power and bragging that they can do a 15 minute procedure in 5 mins. All I can say is... What goes around comes around!!!!

I just cannot believe what I have been reading on this post all week... insinuating that all the witnesses are liars, calling cops murderers and the worst is belittling people who work at Costco. What is wrong with all of you? No two people will perceive things the same way, from a staff meeting, to a night out with friends, to an argument between two people. This doesn't make them liars. ...and seriously, do you really think the cops involved set out to murder someone that day. What everyone is forgetting is that we live in a violent society where crime is rampant, the men and women who join the police force put their lives on the line every day to try and make our cities safer places to live. I'm pretty sure they don't do it because they want to get out of bed each day to shoot someone and I'm pretty sure they don't do it to get rich. ...and no, I'm not a cop. Lastly, are you all friggin snobs... I'm so sick of the comments putting down the Costco employees and insinuating they are morons. These people go to work every day, they have jobs, when so many are unemployed or just plain chose not to work. Stop belittling them.
It is horrible that Erik Scott died, but your all losing sight of the issues. He had massive amounts of drugs in his system, he was stumbling through the store, he was acting erratic enough to warrant a 911 call, and he had a gun and instead of just putting his hands up and leaving them up, he reached for his gun and apparently pointed or held it towards the cop in front of him. Did he have to be shot as many times as he was... probably not, but who really knows. No one knows for sure what Erik was going to do and no one knows for sure what they would have done if put in the police officers shoes. Years ago I tried to stop two thugs from stealing a friends car and a gun was pulled on me, my adrenaline kicked in in a split-second saving me from getting my head blown off. Once I got to safety I started shivering and went in to shock... it probably took me about 2 hours before I settled down, so I can imagine what happens with a police officer who goes in to a situation like that. Unfortunately, I don't think that the police had any other option at that moment in time.
