The long arm of the US federal government taxes your worldwide income, even if you live in Somali. :-)
I feel for the people in this story, but you can't please some people by giving them inexpensive health insurance by taking freedom and money away from other people. You've got to figure out how you're going to do that while preserving the freedoms of others (including the right to keep one's own money).
I was in the relay too. My team was very sad to hear the news. I too will dedicate my next Ragnar Relay run to Jeremy. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Hee hee.

I don't want to leave my country, but if I did, the IRS would still tax much of my income. The IRS taxes the worldwide income of US citizens, with some income excluded.
So even if someone left the country, health care reform still could directly impacts him or her.
:-)
Reading this story, it really says nothing about what policies Mr Sandoval might advocate. I just don't know what policies he might advocate, if he even runs, so I'll sit tight until then.

lol :-)
I moved my corporation here last year, *specifically* because there's no income tax here. My company's money and my personal money gets spent here. If a corporate income tax is introduced, I and my company are gone. Not that my corporation matters, but I'm not the only one that would pull up stakes move.
"A family of three making $25,000 a year...pays about 10 percent of its income in...taxes. A family of three making $150,000 a year...pays about 4 percent of its income in taxes."
When I go to the movies, they don't charge me according to my income and charge the next guy a different amount according to his income.
A net profits tax would just make me move my business elsewhere. I moved it Nevada specifically because Nevada has no income tax. If Assemblywoman Leslie passes a "net profits tax" (a.k.a an income tax), I, along with many other business owners, will pick up and leave.
I wish lawmakers would work on other ideas other than thinking, "Raise taxes." Leave my money alone. I pay far too much in taxes as it is.

I don't understand how there always is a new tax looming. It never seems to stop.
