I've been a Nevadan for 40 years and I can tell you Harry Ried has done nothing for Nevada. Its hard to believe this guy gets elected very 6 years for such a lackluster performance.

Oh and Brian ended with "That is what newspapers are supposed to do." Yeah right and that's why you have singlehandedly turned the SUN from a viable newspaper to a Sunday insert in the RJ.

Brian you're no Hank...I should know, I worked for the SUN when Hank ran things right.

This woman is not only a racist but a lier as well. If a white man said he would be a better judge than minorities because whites are smarter he would be tarred, feathered and ran out on a rail.

Not an a judicial activist? Read her 1996 article published in the Suffolk Law School journal. In that article, Sotomayor stated: "The public expects the law to be static and predictable. The law, however, is uncertain and responds to changing circumstances."

What about her role as a Board member of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund? She claimed that her main job was to do fundraising for the group. Sotomayor denied knowing what pro-abortion legal briefs were filed by this Puerto Rican legal group.Internal documents from this Puerto Rican group showing that Sotomayor was not just a Board member but sat on the litigation committee and helped prepare a lengthy document outlining dozens of legal cases that the group had filed.

Although she has claimed that she does not support the use of foreign law in the issuing of rulings based on the Constitution or the laws of the land. In her own word she stateed "... [I]nternational Law And Foreign Law Will Be Very Important In The Discussion Of How We Think About The Unsettled Issues In Our Own Legal System. And further stated "Unless American Courts Are More Open To Discussing The Ideas Raised By Foreign Cases, And By International Cases, That We Are Going To Lose Influence In The World."

Judge Sotomayor gave a short speech affirming her commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law. Her remarks were predictable, but unconvincing to anyone who has read her speeches and her previous articles on how she views the Constitution and the law. She's masking her radical liberal ideology behind a facade of humility.

"The old adage is that what is moral wrong for you is not necessarily what's morally wrong for everyone else. We need to find a balance and common ground. First, and foremost, it starts within the family unit."

Old adage? This is moral relativity that is not that old. The founding fathers understood that morality comes from God and a democratic nation can not function without God and social morals. But God is out of favor now and morals are what you want them to be. If you want to help the family unit stop pushing gay marriage. In countries with gay marriage, the family unit is failing where illegimency rates are raising and heterosexual marriage rates declining.

Since schools are built in neighborhoods where children live then it stands to reason that these same children live in a neighbor near an industrial center. So how does pollution affect those in a school but is different for the surrounding neighborhood?

So does that mean that residential housing should not be zoned within the same area as an industrial plant? Good luck in this town because the major builders/developers own the politician around here.

Lets face it Vegas is about money and the local governments around here will sell its soul for greenbacks. Such is the shortsightedness of our local officials. Short term gain resulting in long term problems. NLV sold its historic hertige in Kiel Ranch. Red Rock is already a goner as well as Tule Springs. Mt Charleston will soon follow. Now we have the Water District in the ranching business up north just to get the water rights and plans building a long straw to get it here.

The whole premise of this article is insulting to parents of school age children. Parants do what they can for their children by providing shelter, food and clothing while taxes continue to erode their ability to pay for the basics. Many parents themselves do not have the education to help their children with school work. This is nothing more than part-time homeschooling. I know because I had to do it with my daugther. Luckily, I have a master's degree and could help her with her school work. She would came home with incomplete information on how to do her homework. I had to pick up the slack that teachers failed to do, that is, teach my daughter how to do the work. Homework should be practice for what is learned in the classroom, not a teach it yourself lesson. I put the blame squarely on the our third rate administrators who get first rate pay. Teachers get little support in our schools. Administrators do not care about your/our children. It is an industry that is self motivated to get as much for themselves as they can. More money means higher pay, not better education for our children. The only person that cares for that child is the parent(s) and they have to pick up the tab when taxes are raised.
