I'm willing to bet that this bill's detractors are not business owners. It's cost-prohibitive for many small businesses to offer their employees health insurance coverage, and for those that do there are very few options. I think any legislation that makes it easier for more people to have access to affordable health care (i.e. a small business making it available to employees) is a good thing.
It's also telling that the first "concerns" about this legislation are being put forth now, just weeks before the election. Why doesn't that surprise me? It's just another political game by the Dems.
Speaking of Dems, Allison Copening's big bright idea is to create an "insurance clearing house" Web site that would be run by the government and cost small businesses money. In essence, her big idea would create more government bureaucracy and cost businesses more money to support. And it would compete with services already being offered by insurance brokers in the private sector, services offered to businesses for FREE.
I don't want the government telling me where or how I can choose my health care. And I sure don't want an IQ-challenged opportunist like Copening telling me.
Wow. For Allison Copening to attack Mr. Frank Beers for having the audacity to coordinate a candidates debate in his community is beyond reprehensible.
Unlike the lazy Copening, who couldn't be bothered to attend and meet people in Sun City, I was there. It was a fair forum, with the highly respected Mitch Fox moderating and doing a fantastic job. ALL of the questions came from people in the audience. Everyone had a chance to answer the questions, as Copening would have if she had been there.
For this woman to attack Mr. Frank Beers makes me sick. It is indicative of her lack of morals. But based on her libelous attacks against Sen. Bob Beers, nothing should surprise us when it comes to Copening.
But more importantly, it was clear to anyone in the audience last night why Copening wasn't there: that's because State Sen. Bob Beers is not in the same league as she. His grasp of the issues, understanding of the legislative process, and ability to create workable solutions is unmatched.
Copening doesn't even come close, and I guess the tactic of hiding from voters so they won't figure this out is all she can do.
She does not deserve to be on the same ballot as these other candidates. She doesn't have the character or IQ needed for the job she seeks.
Jon-
Last night's Face to Face with Allison Copening was a gem! It takes a lot of chutzpah for someone to sit across from you with absolutely no understanding of the job she's seeking or the issues facing the district and still try to fake it.
She looked VERY annoyed when you asked her to commit to a debate with Beers on your show. Apparently there's too many "details" to work out, like a day and time.
That's one debate I wouldn't miss for the world.
Thank you for a fantastic story, Mr. Kantowski. Swede Savage really was an original on the circuit and one can only imagine what might have been had it not been for that terrible tragedy.
Thank you again for the thoughtful tribute to Swede. Brought back a lot of memories.

Vote for Allison Copening? The woman can't buy herself a clue.
