On behalf of (the majority of)my fellow Tropicana employees I would like to applaud Mr. Simpsons article. It was both insightful and honest. As a long time employee of the Tropicana it has been somewhat distressing to experience the decline of our workplace since Columbia Sussex took control. Managements incompetence has turned a once proud casino into a dirty, empty haven for prostitutes and pimps. The under staffing of security has put both patrons and workers alike at risk (often only 2 security guards for the whole casino on a weekend!)As for the negotiations regarding our contract, they have no intentions at all of reaching a serious settlement. The Nevada Gaming Commission has stated that gross mismanagement is not in itself a violation of any laws. But I would ask them is it not their responsibility to ensure that Las Vegas has responsible and competent owners when so many jobs and welfare are at stake? As for those that would say that Columbia has a right to manage as they see fit. Well they also have a obligation to both their employees and the community to uphold the high standards of other Nevada casino owners."This isn't Kansas (Kentucky)Dorothy"(BillYung)!!

As a Tropicana employee I would like to state that I was both, insulted and offended by the insinuation that we were calling the police to "run up the numbers" in regards to criminal activity at the property. First of all, there is no need to fabricate offenses, as there more than enough occurring to warrant investigation. Second, correct me if I'm wrong here' but isn't it against the law to make bogus calls to the police dept.? How many union members have been charged with this to date? None! These allegations are just another example of Columbia Sussex' ethics. Which leads me to this little gem! Next week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, every employee is required to attend a mandatory meeting. The subject? "Ethics and Whistle Blowing". What a joke!! That's like Brittany Spears giving a class on parenting! My only hope is that at the conclusion of these classes management may, in fact, learn something about ethics from the everyday hard working Tropicana employee. But that's about as likely as "The Kentucky Kid" admitting he knows nothing about owning a casino in this town. More than likely the purpose of these classes are to try and put a stop to postings like this. Keep all the "dirty laundry" in house. Well' if that's their intention they are out of luck because I for one am going to keep on reporting the truth until we receive a fair contract and until the problems that plague the Tropicana are remedied. And I urge every Tropicana employee reading this posting to do the same. The Tropicana has always been a very special place to work as evidenced by the length of service of its employees. Even through all the years of speculation about its future,WE STAYED! Why? Because of the relationship we share with our customers and with each other. Bill Yung will not break our resolve. The sooner he realizes this the sooner we can all begin to make the Tropicana what it should be "The Jewel of the Strip".
