Let's face it, there are cat lovers out there and thousands of people like this feeding the 200,000 estimated cats. They didn't throw out the cats to breed in the first place. She need to contact one of the Cat Societies who will help her trap, sterilize and get these cats vaccinated then organized into manageable colonies. She needs education to match her big heart. When TNR is legal she will be joined by many in her community and that will lesson the weight on her shoulders. Till then, bless her.

When legal Shannonk, we'll give classes on how to manage the cats. It requires patience and someone who is smarter than the cats. You might not qualify.

Gee lemahk, get a clue, if you want to kill wild animals in your yard why not start with the rats. Also if you research you will see that half the human race has Toxo with no bad effects. A bit of a lock the door after the horse is gone. The wild otters are dying because their immune system is compromised by poisons on our shores. Toxo has been around for centuries. Since cat lovers do the trapping and monitor the cats it will cost the state nothing. Most of us do not want our tax money spent to kill innocent, useful animals. I can teach you how to make the cats poop where you want them to poop. But you would probably prefer to hate than do anything constructive. And, PS there are thousands of studies proving that it works, worldwide studies. But again, you'd probably prefer to hate than learn.

It is legal because these cats are wild. We do not kill animals just because they are wild. We manage them. Trap, Neuter and Return is the best management program tried and true all over the world. The cats colonies are in a territory where there is prey. In Southern Nevada that is usually rodents. If the colony is properly managed by a caretaker, they pretty much stay in one place. After all, they sleep almost 20 hours and hunt 2 hours at dawn and 2 at dusk. Be thankful they control the rats which carry disease to mankind. What you are seeing is probably abandoned pets which are lost until they find their way into a colony. Killing something just because it's wild is inhumane and cruel. TNR. The caretakers are animal angels who are caring for God's creatures.

The cats are wild and we simply do not kill something because it is wild. Besides they are released into the care of a colony caretaker that sees that they have food, water and shelter. They are as much part of our ecosystem as any other wild animal. Since we have an abundance of rodents, that is their chief prey. They serve the community as self sustaining, non-toxic rodent control. The birds they kill are usually the sick and weak, in a Darwinian manner. They do not target any particular species. Plus, studies have shown that humans with their use of pesticides, loss of habitate and phone towers are the main killer of our birds. The present system of trap and kill has failed. Trap, neuter and return is the only way to reduce the population. Colonies can easily be trained to poop in a desirable place. Note the many cases of cats kept in warehouses as rodent control. The Los Angeles Police department uses "cat Patrols" in all their facilities. Your eagerness to distroy your neighbors pet betrays your prejudice against cats. The problem was with people tossing their cats, but the cats are intelligent enough to exist on their own and now there are 80 to 100 million of them. So being angry at the past or present pet owners does not do much to help the situation. Neither can 13 Animal control officers do anything in a community of 2 million. Only the animal rescue societies can help solve this problem. Why not be part of the solution instead of complaining.
