I think I'm starting to lose track of your point, I'm not from the 'South' either.
How about if I whistle 'Dixie' for ya, will that help?
Ground Control to Major Tom (that's you 24impala.) I just did a fast check of the 37 listed Cup drivers at NASCAR.com. Dang if it doesn't show that 25 of them Yankees. Worse yet, 8 of them varmints are from California. Now what?
Remember the old 'Anyone but Earnhardt' t-shirts that were so offensive to Dale Sr. fans. "OK, we know who you are against, but who are you for?" Does anyone know if there are 'Anyone but Johnson' T's for sale at the tracks? No, I don't want one.
I am not a JJ fan, but sometimes I wonder why success breeds contempt? Maybe because we like pulling for the underdog, it's closer to home? Maybe we like rebels better than we like a clean cut Californian with the @&%# slyest crew chief on the cicuit. But then Kyle Busch, a rebel if there ever was one, is disliked by many fans. Oh verily, verily, it is a mystery.
Back when I was 25, just after the invention of the horseless carriage, I was on my way to Australia by passenger liner. In San Francisco I watched as a 1968 396 ci Chevelle was loaded aboard. A couple of weeks later, while walking the main street of Aukland, New Zealand, (during the day that the ship was stopped there) I heard the sound that was so American that it made me shiver in this town of cars that really looked like an old movie. There was not a car present on this street that didn't have a split windshield. Well you guessed it, here comes the Chevelle, winding through the gears, right up this street, looking good, looking fast..........except he was on the wrong side of the road! Yeh, they drive on the funny side in New Zealand. Made me proud. I love 'Pony cars!' Bring it on!!
I also believe it is a wonderful thing. No more starting to watch an NFL game, which everyone knows start at 10 Pacific Time, and flipping back and forth and back and forth for an hour or more to see when the race will actually get around to starting. Of course, I never have minded missing the first few seconds when the race is broadcast on FOX.
The REAL question is whether Martin, Johnson, and yes, RPM, are ever going to have a finish outside the top 10? Without that, it's pretty darn hard for anyone else to do much except beat all three for the next seven races and hope!
Yeh, I'd kinda like to see Mark win the championship..... but really, I'd rather see Smoke do it.
Hey, PostRaceAura, what a great idea! Time after time I wish the 'Junior Nation" would check the stats. Maybe sooner or later they will figure it out, Jr. ain't Sr. --- period!!
Remember Richard and Kyle - again I use the Petty's as an example!
I also notice that RPM (including what was Evernham Motorsports (Mr. Dodge) is abandoning the make next year. Dodge is again history, at least for now.
A Dodge win the 'Chase'? Mike you need a vacation............soon!! It will be Chevy or Toyota, again. No Ford's, no Dodges, end of story. Ford is having a tough year in 2009, Dodge has a tough year every year.
