Mandy. Excellent article. You couldn't have picked a better way to describe what we all went through that day.
As a city I think we have lost sight of what our heritage is. We are an industrial city. Regardless of who is running it, we need to call it what it is. Just call it "Heritage Days" is very generic and I'll bet our new residents wonder what that heritage is or just assuming it is gambling or just the founding of our city. With out the industrial complex (BMI) we wouldn't even have a city. I've been attending these parades most of my life and I hated having to work on the day of the parade - but now it feels like just a show to keep us natives and long time residents content. If it was dropped City Hall would never hear the end of it. At the end of the parade I wondered why I made the effort. My infant son will never know the joy I had as a kid during Industrial Days. I agree with everyone posting here and with Mandy Walton.
It seems to me that the RTC needs to pay more attention, perhaps watch these areas during prime drive time hours. I've seen similar bus stops around the valley that hold up rush hour traffic. You don't see these problems in other cites. Granted we installed our bus system after we built our cities, but I notice a lack of civic pride not only in the RTC but in road construction and repair. These people working on these crews are from somewhere else and seem to have a "it's not my home town" attitude. I saw buses in London during rush hour and they were not in they way when stopped, I also so a British road crew repair a section of the road. It was quick and when done you couldn't feel the transition. So why do our potholes turn in to speed bumps? Why are the CAT buses always in the way? I think a little civic pride would make people a lot happier.
Wow, johnevegas, just because someone doesn't like BO for his policies doesn't make him racist. Ireland has a low tax policy on business and is benifiting for it. You better have something to back up your claim.

Good for you , Mandy! We all need to pay attention to those around us who may need help. It's easy to forget just how unforgiving the heat can be, especially those of us who grew up here.
