Palo Verde does NOT lack honor at all. Do you remember the Las Vegas High player, Eddie Gomez, that suddenly died in 2003 just days after taking a hit to the head in the Sunrise Region championship game against Desert Pines? LVHS had to lay him to rest the same week before facing Palo Verde in the state semifinals that Saturday. Las Vegas won the state semifinal game, 34-7, and despite the defeat, Palo Verde performed a gesture of utmost respect. During the handshakes, each of the players carried a rose to the Las Vegas sideline and put them all in a basket and handed them to the family of the fallen Las Vegas High football player. Very classy, and HONORABLE.
So you can't say that Palo is not honorable, because that is NOT TRUE.

I agree with your first (and only) point that letsciencedecide lacks honor in saying that this death was for the best. Just plain rude, and wrong! But nothing else really made sense. If you've seen Palo Verde play, they are NOT a passing team by any means. That couldn't be more true this year. They are a team that runs the ball into the ground until the cows come home. Can't blame Rost for leaving the first team in the game through the 3rd quarter, because they need the exposure. If you can't tackle or play defense, this is what happens to you when you play a team with a powerful offense. True, 76 points looks excessive at first sight, but it's ultimately what Coach Castro would have liked to see -- the Panthers playing defense the way he taught them to, and executing the way they are expected to. It's not about running up the score; it's about playing football.
God Bless Marque... I knew him. He was a great guy.
So ignorant...
Palo Verde haters will ALWAYS find something bad to say about them. It's like politics -- Republicans will always find something egregious to say about Democrats, and vice versa. Enough is enough with all the hate against solid programs!
To further expand Ray Brewer's point he made earlier in the week... it's funny how people are quick to pull out the sympathy card for Faith Lutheran, but it's okay to blast Bishop Gorman for anything they do, win or lose. They're both private schools... shouldn't you hate them both? Let's get some equal treatment here!
VegasVegas...
If you would have seen the game, you would have LOTS of respect for what Legacy did last week. Essentially shutting down a HUGE offensive power like Palo Verde is something that is almost UNHEARD OF! One defensive touchdown and that's it. That performance deserves many kudos, and RESPECT.
Legacy proved they were the better team that night, and proved that they are in the upper echelon of teams in the area.
Both teams left it ALL on the field, period.
It helps to attend a game to know the real story about why a team lost. 'Nuff said.
What a phenomenal game!!! This was very exciting to watch and exciting to be able to call the game on the internet.
What an IMPRESSIVE performance by the Legacy defense! Hands down, it was the best defensive performance I've seen in at least 5 years, especially considering the circumstances that were on the line (first place, snapping the 27-game win streak in league). L.J. McMorris is going to be something special to watch, just as DeShae Edwards was when he was a sophomore. Legacy will be among the best in town for quite a while. To keep Palo Verde's explosive offense OUT of the end zone is almost unheard of! That is what makes this win such a HUGE accomplishment which NO ONE can take away from the Longhorns. Congratulations, Legacy!

Yes I am! Should be an exciting night of football!
And of course I agree the Sun staff kills the RJ at prep sports coverage.

As far as I know, the NIAA's age limit rule is actually 19 years old.

Bishop Gorman DOES provide compensation to each and every pupil that goes to the school. Every single student is offered financial aid, not just through scholarships but also through the school itself. Students from families who are active parishioners at any of the local Catholic churches get a significant discount on their tuition. When I went to Gorman in the late 1990s, full-price tuition was a "mere" $5,950 a year. Since my folks were active in the church, it was only $4,250 for me. Even then, you could still apply for more financial aid. So the aid is there, as long as you qualify for it.
As for the FREE tuition, I can't really speak for that because I didn't know of anyone who did go to Gorman for free back then (1998). I'm sure some of the star athletes are given the red carpet, though. There has to be more than just the facilities to attract inner-city kids to Bishop Gorman. It can't be the good-looking girls in short skirts either, because they banned those the year after I graduated.
Yeah, being a BGHS alum, it's nice to see that the Gaels are having success in Athletics... but if they're cheating to attain that success, doesn't that technically mean that they're breaking one of the Ten Commandments? Hmmm....
