Interesting that so many commenters are worried about low income rentals in their neighborhoods. It was an aspect I thought of, but didn't get to in this story. I will make sure to address it if we do future stories on the topic.

@RHG58 The story's not meant to be good, bad or indifferent. It is what it is. He's a powerful figure in Nevada. The article tries to illuminate how he does what he does. We report, you decide.

Aaronboy (Roy Keith): Nevada public employee unions, including teachers, can't strike. Instead, they have binding arbitration.

Good question from a reader: starting salary of a teacher. $34,688 in Clark County. Below is a link to the salary schedule, and what is meant by "step increases." Horizontal is generally for education, vertical for years of service. http://www.ccsd.net/jobs/lps/?p=salary

@fearNloathingNV I called Prof. Lokken trying to get a feeling of how Gov. Sandoval is perceived out in the public. I don't know what an "expert" would be. But he's more observant than the average man and a voice.

Hey @Babyboomer, Sandoval is the commander in chief of the Nevada National Guard. Read his travel journal here: http://www.lvtsg.com/imho/2011/08/govern...

Also, note that Kihuen's lack of bills was pointed out first by the Nevada News Bureau http://www.nevadanewsbureau.com/tag/rube...

@mikegino He's chief diversity officer at College of Southern Nevada, where he has worked since 1998.
I've also heard he's great at connecting with constituents and speaking to a crowd.

Hey gang. Committee on Local Government Finance Committee is meeting now (Thursday, 11 a.m.). Board is asking tough questions of NLV officials, painting grim picture of finances. I'm tweeting at www.twitter.com/schwartznews (you don't have to be signed up to twitter to follow). Also, I'll be posting a followup story soon.

Hey ColinFromLasVegas. Quite the comment there. But one point of clarification - this money was diverted by the 2009 Legislature, before Gov. Sandoval was in office.
