Yucca Mountain is about the 1,000th thing that Nevada should be asking Reid to think about.
How about jobs?
How about diversification of the employers?
How about four lane interstates to Reno and Phoenix?
How about fixing the public health care expenses at UMC?
How about gang crime in Las Vegas?
How about the criminal death rate on construction projects along the strip?
How about the 14% unemployment rate that is continuing to climb?
How about a run away chlorine tanker that could have killed 25000 people?
How about how about how about....
The Sun and some of its readers are irrationally focused on Yucca Mountain when there are so many more important issues being ignored. But I guess that is politics.
Hopefully the next election kicks out all politicians who only want to be reelected.
BTW, earthquakes are of no concern to the Yucca Mountain repository. The facilities are designed for an 11+ earthquake as well as this level of quake hasn't happened ever as well as there are balanced rocks in the area that have been that way for tens of thousands of years showing that no major earthquake has happened. This letter just goes to show how gullible some Nevadans are for Reid's propaganda.
You misread the legislation. It states that "Blue Ribbon Commission to consider all alternatives for nuclear waste disposal" whereas Reid wanted the words that stated that Yucca Mountain could not be considered. The words "all alternatives" implicitly includes Yucca Mountain. Further, while you are gloating, consider that without a nuclear waste repository planned it is entirely possible that lawsuits will force all existing nuclear power plants to shut down as well as prevent any new ones from being built. The NRC's waste confidence rule as enforced by the courts requires that a real solution is available, not the promise that one will be someday available. Based on Obama's statement that he will cease Yucca Mountain is proof that it is unlikely that there will ever be a place to store nuclear waste since even after 30 years all it takes is one politician to stop the nation's plan.
Las Vegas and Reno will be empty of tourists since our visitors will be worried about the lack of electricity due to Nevada's shortsighted, selfish and politically driven moves. Gambling only exists with cheap energy, otherwise people can't travel to Nevada nor have money to spend.
The problem with the Sun and the Democrats is that they fail to realize America has worked because of rules. You play by the rules and win or lose. Now the Democrats want to change rules right and left, ignore laws, in essence do anything to stay in power and ram their distorted Socialist agendas through Congress.
To change the law now to allow an immediate replacement solidifies the Democratic political robbery. America will remember these actions for the next 50 years and NEVER elect another Democrat.
Doesn't it seem to be unethical misuse of ratepayer money from the Nuclear Waste Fund to pay Nevada $10 million to use in legal fees to fight against the very thing for which the fund was setup? Only in America....
BTW, the Sun should be congratulated by their community on allowing comments to be posted on their editorials. A true sign of supporting freedom of speech. Thank you!

The point is, teamster, that the most realistic earthquake that will occur is probably a 6.5, yet the buildings are designed for a 11, almost 10000 times more powerful. There is no danger from Yucca Mountain. Never will be.
Contrast this with runaway chlorine tankers and 15% unemployment, both of which are real events.
Again, nuclear waste is solid ceramic or glass, not green liquid in a drum. Nevada could have been the world's leader in nuclear waste and nuclear research paying $100k+.yr for hundreds or thousands of jobs, but Reid would rather have the Teamster members caulking windows at miminum wage. This is what you want? What a joke..
