And let's not forget that in the recent presidential primaries somewhere between 96 and 98 percent of Republican voters were white. And did you see how white (and geezery) the GOP convention in Minnesota was?
From busing and affirmative action to welfare and immigration, this is a party defined by its of the race issue to rally its supporters and wedge off segments of its opposition. How many times a week does Hannity claim victim status because of the color line? And then there is that whole fake racial attack claimed by a McCain worker in Pittsburgh this week. There are a few Republicans of good will who would honestly like to invite African Americans into the party, but they are a rarity.
