Weak argument. People want to know the price of a ticket. People who come to Las Vegas complain all the time of add on fees. It assumes we are all stupid and gullible. Too bad the government had to make a law. Airlines could have prevented it by more truth in their advertising.
Racism continues to flaunt its ugly face in our society. A good friend of mine recently returned home from receiving a degree at a prestigious college in another state His family lives in an Summerlin. He is black. He has been pulled over three times in three months, asking if his new car is stolen. He has been made to wait for over an hour while his fingerprints were run through the system. A black man in a white neighborhood! Imagine that! Racial profiling continues to exist. Look at our schools. As a teacher, I have not had one "white" student in my class in four years. Our schools aren't segregated? They are, by economics. Go visit the schools on the east side of Las Vegas. Racism continues to exist. Just because "racism isn't as bad as it was" doesn't mean we can't do a whole lot more to further equality. Ignorance and hate in a country created by a melting pot of immigrants-some who got here by protest! The United States has been a nation of vultures when it comes to exploiting races and nationalities. I hope citizens realize we all came from somewhere else. Martin Luther King's dream has made progress but remains. Someday, citizens will be able to walk or drive down the street and will not be profiled by the color of their skin.
"held accountable" sorry
Must have been a "Freudian slip" lol
Principals are counting on winning the arbitration. Teachers have been told their jobs are safe-until next year. Teachers have been told if they do not perform in the manner the administrator dictates, they will be fired. That dictate would be reasonable if the administrators were competent and demonstrated managerial skills. A boss doesn't get the best out of an employee with threats and negative comments. Just as teachers know students do their best work in a safe, encouraging, challenging environment.
Teachers in this district have two full time jobs. The most important is teaching. The second job, which takes a huge amount of time, is what has become the over the top amount of paperwork, reports, statistics and data.
My lesson plans for my third grade class are now thirteen pages long.
Children do not have materials for math so hours are spent to copy them.
The expectation that each child below grade level needs additional instruction outside of class and how we do it is our problem requires teachers to provide tutoring before or after school (under the threat of "Next year, don't think I will forget"
Principals are feeling the pressure-at our school, all fingers are pointed at teachers, despite administrative incompetence.
It is an ugly year. Don't think this environment of "teachers are the enemy" helps your children. We are professionals. We can't control the interruptions to our instruction, or the constant pull outs for data driven testing. Your child has already had four major tests at our elementary school since returning from Christmas break. They had a major test right before Christmas break. Next week they will have another one.
These are hours of instructional time.
Parents need to get involved. Teachers have less and less control over the instructional environment yet are help accountable.
Stop this madness.
Let us teach.
The school district makes threats and the money comes out of the mouths of our least paid employees. This town should be ashamed of the way they treat school district workers. Principals who worked in twelve month schools still got paid for twelve month salaries per their contract after they went to a nine month schedule! Administrators gave back peanuts. The 99% in the school district are the support staff. Let's talk about the insurance the district wants the teachers to accept. Administrators in the district complain about how horrible their HMO is. How little it pays. What they get stuck paying.
We have a Superintendent playing poker with our kids education all for an extra buck. Stop the insanity. Someone please stop this insanity.
Our educational system is prehistoric. School districts seem to think if they beat on teachers more, control the curriculum without the input of educators, ignore the changing face of how children learn and require massive amounts of time "assessing" i.e. testing, our system will improve.
Teachers no longer teach your child. They no longer have the option of teaching the student. They teach the curriculum. If your child is not developmentally ready to learn they are placed in a "yellow" or "red" zone and placed in remedial groups.
Children are considered failures as early as kindergarten. When will this insanity end?
Effective teachers are not ones who prepare your children for tests. Effective teachers realize a subject can be taught in more than one way and they do it. School districts don't allow that anymore.
Parents don't get it. Look at the curriculum materials. Go sit in a classroom for a day. Get involved. It really does take a village not just the worker bees.
The CCSD letter to teachers did not provide any information about what insurance company or benefits would be available. The letter was basically to let us know why the Teachers Health Trust was not working for us as well as what the district believed it could do. It was all very confusing. I am not sure if that was deliberate? Why is the district circumventing the very process they have agreed to abide by in the past? The accusations in the past have been the union was too willing to sell the teachers down the road. We haven't have a raise in three years. We pay more for retirement and the district just reached into our paychecks and took it.
Teachers are reviled in this town not only by the district, they are reviled by parents and administrators as well.
Many parents show disrespect and distrust to teachers. The district doesn't do much to support them.
What is the product here? What or who are the tools to provide the best product? The teachers.
No one in business would succeed if they treated their personnel and equipment as teachers have been treated. Think about it. You want a quality product you take care of your equipment you don't kick it, torch it or announce to the world that you think you business is sound but your employees are the devil in disguise.
Teachers are not the "enemy", they are the ones you entrust your children to 3/4 of their lives. Why would you want to revile them, where is the support?
A teacher with a Porsche? Must be married to a Casino mogul!

Trump's intelligent assessment of Romney?
"He;s not going to let bad things happen".
Oh wow. I am underwhelmed by the intelligent comments emanating from such a credible source. Money "trumps"
intelligence. What is Romney thinking? His endorsement is a good thing? I once worked for a non profit agency that took money from Jessica Hahn -boy did we hear the protests. Times have really changed-lol
