I moved from Las Vegas because I could not control my gambling addiction. The suicide rate of gamblers in Las Vegas is 4 times higher than nongambling cities.
I moved away from Nevada to a non gaming state. I still attend GA meetings but haven't gambled for a year.
I never knew I had it in me to gamble out of control. I did not start until my 40's. I was lucky -I did not break any laws-but here I was a 40 year old woman pawning my jewelry, juggling bills, chasing the win.
Believe it or not the last year I was in Nevada I won 50,000 in slot machine play. I gave it all back.
I am a casino's favorite type of gambler.
I am so thankful I had the opportunity to move away from Las Vegas.
I wish the very best to those who struggle with compulsive gambling.
It isn't like a drug you can stay away from by avoiding certain neighborhoods, it is on every street corner, in every 7-11, grocery store, even K-Mart, for god's sake-
It is in your face everywhere.
Each morning I wake up thankful I am still alive.
It could have been me.
All businesses need to pay attention and provide education and referral.
Casino's take your money. Period. It is the nature of their business. Don't expect them to babysit an addiction which makes them money.
Las Vegas, as a community could do a lot more to care for its citizens.
What a world we live in. Everyone believes they are judge and jury without being privy to the facts. He had a plea deal. We will never know the entire story. What a nightmare for this kid. To be abused and terrified by his father for years. To know his father had killed his siblings. I guess that was okay because he didn't get caught.
Where were the teachers, neighbors, law enforcement while this kid was growing up? This isn't "just his fault". It the the failure of a society that "doesn't get involved". Hides behind gated communities and ignores opportunities to know neighbors. Try and have a little compassion. If this kid has a chance at changing his life, even a speck, after what he has been through, let's support it.
Great America
Listen to what the kids are saying!
Parents-listen!
They are saying they don't tell because the think no adult would believe them. Authorities in this article are expressing disbelief that this icon of the community is a pedophile-what is it going to take? It is up to you, parents-the schools can do their little good touch/bad touch talks but if your kids don't believe they have anyone to tell they will carry it inside forever and the damage is huge.
One adult -Aunt, Uncle, Cousin-if you can't do it, parents, find someone your kid can trust-
and Pay Attention to what is going on in your kid's life. Don't worry about hurting feelings. If it looks strange, it probably is.
hahahahahahaha
tee hee
just couldn't help it.
Let's guess...
Could it be something from the Mensa Society?
No, wait!
Wait!
Leftover Halloween candy?
One year of free texting?
Oh!
Napkin hats!!
I agree. Great letter.
I suppose it isn't if you are in the top 4% tax bracket.
Keep sending the poor whites, and people of color to fight the dirty wars overseas. Offer them lots of bonus money for their lives. Recruit them in high school, where they don't have a rat's a-- chance of getting a good education in Clark County.
Then, as usual, since the Confederacy, blame the woes of the country on the poor and minorities.
Just keep in mind, it is the "minorities" who are no longer the minority in this country.
The face of America is changing.
It is a true melting pot.
The financial rape of this country by the Bush gang is the last stand for the "elite".
Last year I had this problem at the Cannery-I called them and the number. All I got was the runaround. I had nowhere to go to get help. I never got my three hundred dollars back. I never went back to the Cannery again.
They were no help.
Wynn on "Fox News"-
that about tilts the credibility meter in my book.
Wynn has "jumped the shark".
Looks like he lost a loyal steady partner who knew when to reign his ego in-
Why does this happen so often?
A person succeeds in one area and believes s/he is the utmost authority in others?
Wynn's businesses are failing like many in the casino business. Unfortunately for Steve Wynn he has made many enemies with his abrasiveness and he continues to do so when he goes on Fox news.
I'll never return to his casino-not when he starts spouting off like this.
sounds like you all know the ropes of this town's legal system..
All this is going on and nothing done-
it's like, *yawn*
Scary place to live-let along go for vacation-
We really need to get over the "answer to the education problem" is children's tests scores.
Why don't you do the real story?
Teachers don't have control over what or how children learn anymore. Everything is scripted.
Curriculum gurus choose the content and format, principals ensure the implementation, teachers are instructed to teach curriculum with "fidelity" and then teachers are held responsible for student success. Teachers aren't permitted to teach any other way. Even if a student doesn't do well with the format.
Parents need to ask the District how they choose these curriculum materials-they will tell you "research based data" but all curriculum claim to be developed based on "research"
Teachers would love to teach! Most learning and testing takes place on computer programs. Teachers have no control over how your child learns or succeeds yet they are held responsible for the test scores!
If your child is not a "test taker" in the eye of the district, your child is a failure-and sadly, kids get this message-
-and take it to heart.
