VegasVegas,

Good points and analysis. However:

1) Gorman did NOT have better talent last year. They did have a lot of D-1 talent as usual but the strain was already showing with the former coach's conservative style clashing with these kids and their parents needing the ability to put up big numbers for the scouts. Overall, though, I don't think they had the same talent level as Palo's who they got trounced by.

2) I like the Gorman coach but I'm dying to see him go head to head in a close game situation with talented coaches like Palo's and LV's. Only then will we really know much about how good their coach is.

3) I don't know as much about the North this year but having to travel by bus to the North to play a semi-final over Thanksgiving weekend and then turn around to play in State the following weekend is a tough path for Gorman.

Gorman does give out scholarships, they are just labeled as "financial need" based. No public school can do this. A scholarship is a scholarship. Also, they give jobs on their campus to the parents of recruited athletes. Sheesh, I don't even think NCAA would allow that at the college level! Also, they play in the weakest of the 4 divisions in the valley and can make the too-expanded playoffs by barely doing more than fielding a team. We should eliminate divisions within the Sunset and Sunrise regions and have teams play a weighted schedule based on prior year performance---and, take less teams in the playoffs-especially football. If Gorman consistently had to play Palo, Cimarron, and Cheyenne in the regular season, it would be much more balanced. Actually, I think their players would like the greater challenge.

Same old Gorman. Sloppy executions and poor discipline, especially on special teams in this game. This is the reason why there was 24 years between the last two state titles-with far fewer teams than there are now. If they weren't in the weakest of the 4 divisions in the valley, or if there was more strength of schedule re-scheduling each year, they might even have a hard time making the playoffs-definitely the case if they decided to take 2 teams instead of the insane 4 teams they take now from each division. They installed a pro-style offense for one reason only this year-more recruits that are interested in putting up big numbers for Div I scholarships. I'm a former Gorman parent and wish them well but Gorman will always be a victim of its own success. Coach seems like a nice guy though.

Why do so many agencies still not have their labor agreements online and available for viewing? Labor is about 80% or more of public sector budgets. The public should see this.

Rush is the leader of the Republican Party as much as Bill Maher, Jon Daly, or Whoopi Goldberg is the leader of the Democratic Party. Get real, people. The Republicans don't need to follow the Obama model of electing a personality. They just need to return to their principles that they abandoned. I seriously doubt they can. Instead, they should be pursuing constitutional amendments on things like: a balanced federal budget, elimination of unfunded federal mandates, allowing spending bills that are limited to only one subject. Republicans don't need to try to become Democrats, they need to learn what it means to be a Republican. Obviously, they've forgotten.

Sorry, Rob, I know you just report the news but this article is part of the problem and why Gorman just fired their successful football coach after 2 seasons. He cared squat about Division I scholarships and focused on team ball instead. Gorman loves this kind of publicity with Signing Day and all. Watch how long it takes Gorman to win another state championship in Football. Heck they may not even make it to state in basketball. The only word kids at Gorman see in T--E--A--M is M--E.

Its about time! Yes, its a horrible option but at least someone is trying to come up with something. I appreciate someone is at least attempting to propose real solutions in light of 36% proposed budget cuts. Jobs are going to be lost one way or the other and why do we think someone is going to be less exposed to other types of thought because one less of the thousands of colleges in this country offers history or English degrees? By the way, this guy likely made around $2000 a semester for teaching his course and we pay the full timers 60-80k and more to teach 3 classes and do "research" in order to publish and keep tenure. Ever wonder why local and state government has such an oddly disproportionate share of its operating expenses wrapped up in labor costs? If you don't cut there, just double the tuition to come in line with national averages and see how popular are colleges are anymore. Tough times and choices are still ahead...sorry for being a realist, folks!

Its time to stop the issuing of all new residential water permits and stop this unnecessary growth. Vacant housing would be filled in, home values would increase, and water conserved.

They drive to Anaheim, park their car (for a price?). Then they wait god knows how long buying a ticket, waiting, and boarding (after going through security), spend 150-200 for a round trip ticket to Vegas that will still take a couple of hours to get here. Then, where they are deposited will require them to either take a taxi or rent a car or, at a minimum, take the one-way $5 monorail (with their luggage!) to their casino. Anybody see any flaws in this business model?????????

Can anyone say "State Income Tax"? The Californication of Nevada is nearly complete.
