I will never agree with the HPD tactics on this one. I'll leave it at that.
One question though: Where was the patrol supervisor when all of this was going on? There was a boss on patrol wasn't there? Wasn't this going on long enough for a supervisor to get to the scene?
Change your policies HPD. When dealing with possible suicide threats or an emotionally disturbed person, make it mandatory that a patrol supervisor, an officer with rank and experience, get to the scene as soon as possible to evaluate and take command of the situation. Make it mandatory for a patrol supervisor to show up on all arrest situations also, to verify the arrest. Make the officers that get promoted start having supervisory responsibilities.
My guess is he (patrol supervisor) may have been on a car stop somewhere though........
Come on darthbry, you know this whole thing was probably started by them being screwed with and targeted by the HPD to summonse over some time, maybe even years. No other reason for her to show up so angry. She was WRONG TO DO THIS, but that happens to most people that continually get screwed with.
re: Shooting
What's wrong with a nightstick? Walk up to her with a nightstick, order her to drop the knife or you will crack her in the head with it. Problem solved, if she doesn't drop it you knock her out. Isn't it a requirement to have your nightstick with you at all times? If it's not a requirement maybe they should make it one. This lady with a knife who doesn't know how to use it as a weapon should not be able to come close to hurting anyone if four cops around her with nightsticks are ready to give her a good whack. And you know that is true.
I read a post a while ago talking about using a spare tire. That is a great idea. Using your head to solve a problem without friggin killing someone. This went on plenty, plenty long enough to go get a spare tire. Use it as a shield. This protects you. You walk up to her with it, order her to drop the knife, if she doesn't, then nail her with it as hard as you can. She is going to go down, probably get hurt in the process.
but you know what "SHE WOULD STILL BE ALIVE !!!".
Maybe it's time cops here carry riot shields in their cars like they do in big cities. That would've worked great.
A little friggin common sense and ingenuity goes a long way.
Any real cop out there, even a prison guard who deals with shanks all the time, will tell you this woman could have been taken into custody easily without killing her.
And I'm not anti-police at all. I've seen the inquest. I will never believe that shooting her was the only thing they could do. There was plenty they could have done without shooting her.
Why did she show up pissed in the first place? I'll bet she finally snapped because she was sick and tired of the treatment and harassment her and her husband had been getting by the HPD over the years. I can't think of any other reason. I would like to see the record of BS tickets issued to them over the years. I believe they were targets of the HPD to screw with.
Very easy trucks to spot and target for their ticket abuse if they wanted to. Think about that. It was probably just a game for the HPD to screw with the foreigner ice cream trucks, harass them, and ticket them.
Two tickets over $600 to the neighborhood ice cream guy. He testified he didn't even have him on radar. What a joke. Keep the revenue coming in boys.
HPD probably trying to see if they could make him miss a mortgage payment.
Think about how easy it is to target someone if they want to. They could ruin anyone financially if they choose with the stroke of a pen. Now I just feel sorry for any of the witnesses that had the guts to testify against them. They may be next.
Let's watch it tomorrow and friday on television. I believe it's being broadcast on Las Vegas 1, cox cable channel 19.
Seems like the the one-sided show of the HPD will continue for tomorrow. Let's just hope that the witnesses, the public, and the media have voiced their concerns and questions of this unfortunate incident and the inquest process enough so that some real questions are asked and answered, and the real facts are revealed and presented to the jury?
I can't wait to see what the jury thinks of all the changing statements and reports the HPD has had on this incident. Though they will probably not even present the jury with all the conflicting evidence. They will most likely only present the evidence that makes them look squeeky clean as they always do. Let's hope the D.A.'s office starts doing the right thing.
Let's hope a change is on the horizon, STARTING TOMORROW! Because a change is seriously needed in this city which is in a downward spiral, and not looking to change for the better anytime soon.
Whew, the stand-in has finally arrived. "O.K. From here on out, You take care of Tony's interviews."
No hatred for authority at all. Hatred for some and their tactics, yes. I am retired from law enforcement. Knife or no knife there were plenty of tactics that should have been used without shooting her. This disgusts me. Was this woman upset, yes. Was she a criminal, No. If all those cops couldn't subdue this woman without shooting her, then they should go find another line of work. Nothing professional about them and their tactics.

The D.A.'s office needs to call all 10 witnesses that the Selimaj investigative team has come up with that contradict the fairytale HPD story. I don't care if this inquest takes a week, the jury deserves to hear every witness available and real questions need to be answered to all ten witnesses.
If the D.A.'s office has any integrity whatsoever that is what they need to do.

And the bullsh#t Obstruction Charge: That is an insult to society as a whole. The abusive police just executed this poor guy's wife and he wants to go to her and be with her. I sure know I wouldn't listen to them telling me to stay back. Who would? Anyone with half a brain would do anything to get to a loved one after being shot right in front of them by the police of all people.
Henderson's Escalation of events:
First they execute his wife unjustly, then put a boot in her neck. No one was in imminent danger of death or serious physical injury. I will never believe that. NEVER. UNJUSTIFIED EXECUTION.
Then they tell her husband to stay away after shooting her. Now he doesn't listen so they lock him up too. I would hope anyone reading this post would do the same and do anything possible to be with a loved one right after they have been shot! This department here is a pathetic circus show joke. What a trumped up BS charge that should be dropped immediately! This shows what a comedy show the system is here. This entire city and criminal justice system here should be nothing but ashamed and embarassed at their actions. Why is that BS charge still on the board? explain that one to me.
And now that they've killed their mother right in front of them, let's take the kids away and put them with strangers at a shelter since we trumped up charges on Dad and put him in jail, too.
What happens behind closed doors: the police and system probably just laugh at us, concerned citizens, because they know the have permission to do as they please, because they know they can get away with anything.
I am ashamed to be a Henderson resident and I am truly sorry to Mr. Selimaj that the police department and system here that my taxes support wronged him in the worst possible way.
I'm just curious how much longer we as a public are going to put up with this.

I've worn the vest, done the job, and the shooting was WRONG. Total escalation on the part of the police and the exact opposite of what you are supposed to do.
