Funny how people write about "longing for the past", when the Mob controlled Vegas. Growing up back East, we all knew Lou Perini and his buds were in the mob, tied into Gerry Angiulo down by the docks in Boston. I imagine Perini Corp. is a little cleaner now, but it is curious that they seem to have a stranglehold on casino work, not just here, but all over the country. Maybe a "stranglehold" is all you need to get casino work?
You are right, gmag39, "quality" is so important. Gee, who built the Clark County courthouse? Union "craftsmen", that's who. And the project turned into a disgraceful joke. And City Center? Maybe there were so many deaths because the craftsmen got sh*tfaced at lunch, as reported by the Sun..
But all is good. Work is leaving town, and pretty soon, Collins and Sisolak won't be receiving any comps from the Unions. So we're talking a moot point-No work, no Union loafers. Somehow, I think "quality" won't be an issue. It never was.
LVP, it's time to get out and grease palms ASAP. Maybe you can get Steve Ross' union layabouts to help. After all, what's an extra 4 Mil in this great economy?
Yes, this is really a "Wayback" machine moment. Joanie and Ralphie Valladares were my favorites. Both gone, but not forgotten...

All these developers must have been too young to remember the 70's. Bad, bad times, 15% interest rates. Late 80's and early 90's, US was on its knees, especially Cali.
What were they thinking? Vantage Lofts in Henderson 1/2 done, abandoned. Same builders (Slade) partially built a church on Lake Mead as part of the deal. Incomplete. Behind Vantage are 4 office buildings. One actually being used, albeit with "For Lease" signs out front. 2 others look complete, and empty. The 4th has plywood windows. Across the street, the torn up disaster that is Black Mountain. Piles and piles of dirt, nothing else.
Yet this is one small area in the overall mess. Which begs the question-was there any master plan to regulate this out of control growth? Did the overpaid loafers at the City of Henderson simply stamp plans "Approved", and hire more and more plan checkers and inspectors? Boulder City controls its growth, why not Henderson?
