When I was 6 years old, I stole a candy bar from a grocery store. My mother found out and took me back to the store and made me apologize to the manager and return the stolen candy bar. It was a lesson about honesty and integrity- one I never forgot. It was about returning something that was not legally mine to the rightful owner.
I wonder what kind of lesson I would have learned had my mother not found out about my misdeed --what if I sold the stolen candy bar to my best friend--- could she then have legally claimed it as hers?
