"stand firm teachers, ...pay cuts are unacceptable"

what about that room tax which was originally meant for teachers salary but gobbled up by ccsd.

two years of pay cuts is sad and unacceptable. if ccsd is threatening layoffs so be it. hold onto your salaries and benefits because once their gone you never get them reinstated in the next year. there are a few teachers who should be let go. most of our teachers do an excellent job and they should get a livable wage for 5 years of college, remember most have student loans to pay for. if ccsd wants to save money they need to do an efficiency study to trim their fat and eliminate the SAP/ERP(software) program which has spent over 70 million and is estimated to cost another 50 million more to finish

AMTRAK

..dude bring back amtrak to LA. it would be much cheaper and could come online faster.

I won't take a train to Victorville and the maglev is too pricey unless private investments want to take the risk to build.

It is too bad we aren't using this money to start a light rail project.

The RTC choose buses over lightrail however a bus is a bus and I don't see many giving up their cars to ride the bus. Bus is seen as a last resort and not an anternative to driving.

Since I live in the area where this will be done I am glad for the project but I am skeptical it will revive the neighborhoods around Sahara.

I doubt these claims will materialize, but at least its something rather then doing nothing,

"...'boy, this really is a beautiful corridor,'"

"This project is really going to improve the quality of life for the residents of this community,"

"AMTRAK is the answer"

...simply bring back the LA to Vegas route and save billions in the process and it could be up in less than a year.

actually its headed to the speadway and not the strip? too bad a downtown race would be much better

Amtrak is the quickest and cheapest solution to having rail travel to LA.

It used to run from LA to Vegas and wouldn't be terribly expensive to bring it back.

Definitely would be much much cheaper that the other two proposed projects and we wouldn't have to wait years for it to come online.

There is a simple and much, much less costly solution.

AMTRAK

...bring back the infamous La to Vegas route.

Then subsidize it for two years to bring the ticket costs down to get people to try it.

Save $15-$30 billion in the process.

Maglev is simply vaporware it doesn't exist(in this county) its just an idea that people want to make money off of trying to get the public to buy into. Just like the monorail in vegas was an opportunity for some investors to make mucho money off the idea.

Buses are primarily used by poor people who can not afford cars and not by daily commuters.

Light rail on the other hand WOULD be used primarily by commuters.

The reason the monorail is not used by commuters is because it doesn't connect to near where people primarily live.

Regional Transportation Commission voted against a light rail a few years back even though their study recommended a light rail was needed.

The longterm cost is not that much more expensive than the max bus solution. When they bought into the Max bus you were not allowed to call it a bus. Sorry but its still a bus. Fancy buses are very expensive too. If you factor in the savings of not having to spend excessive additional money on the freeway system then I would say they are very close in longterm costs after 15yrs.

There is no logical reason NOT to build one from henderson up boulder highway and down fremont st to downtown, then may be have it go up main then to north 5th all the way to north las vegas.

Call the mayor and ask for him to push for a light rail in LV, it will only ever happen if the big politicians get behind the idea.

If we want people to rideshare then you must create dedicated rideshare lanes on every part of our freeway.

...this is what we get instead of a lightrail?

wow thanks alot.

I think we have a lot to thank our elected officials including the mayor.

At least we can look forward to getting a mob museum and an overpriced city hall which both will bring numerous permanent jobs?

Las Vegas will continue to hold the award for being the largest US city without any culture or identity outside of gaming.
