The article failed to mention the worst part of the report for our area, that: "Las Vegas ranked last in 2009 in overall well-being among all large cities, defined as those with a population size of 1 million or greater." If you were choosing a city to open a business in or place to invest in or new city to live in and you saw that info would you choose Las Vegas? It is miserable here and until choices are made to improve the infrastructure and quality of life in Nevada we will continue to rank as a loser locale, in rankings like these and in "real" life.

Judgment aside on the tree purchase (though to me it sounds like they are invoking the plight of poor children to justify cutting down a really big and probably old tree to create some foot traffic) if they really wanted to do something for poor children in the valley they should have taken advantage of the extra traffic and hosted and publicized a "toy drive." As it is the dedication rings hollow...but there is still time M Resort.

Everyone kept telling me that Oscar Goodman was an advocate for the arts in Las Vegas when I moved here but I never believed it. I was right... "I don't see a museum for art as necessary downtown," Goodman said. "The masters are on the Strip. There's also a round-trip plane fare to Los Angeles. It's not necessary to have an art museum. I want a mob museum."
It's all about what he wants, not what might be good for downtown. If people come back to visit downtown, will they want to go back to the mob museum or would they rather visit changing exhibits at an LV MOCA?

I'm disappointed to hear that the MOCA will not be happening on that site. I hope it will come to fruition downtown someday. We desperately need an institution of this caliber that is not on the Strip or on the western edge of town and if the collection is already here what a loss that we have no access to see such great work.

Go Chris G.! and thank you for keeping this issue alive (I'm a constituent who wrote you last year about this very issue.)

Once a week is enough for garbage pick-up especially when all recyclables are separated and go out once a week too. As a recycler, I am so tired of every-other week recycling pick-up. The little bins for paper and plastic overflow in wait! And we never have enough garbage to put out more than once a week since we recycle.

Related note to the SFMOMA show: Local artist Catherine Borg's work will be included in "Vegas Highs, Vegas Lows," a related film series presented by SFMOMA in December to coincide with the exhibition Double Down.
