I'm laughing my @$$ off at this after viewing his website where I found these gems:

He received a reward "which is designed to honor individuals who work tirelessly to improve the beauty, safety, livability and future of our communities and who have made Nevada a better place for all citizens" [except the handicap]

He was called "an excellent role model, a great ambassador for Las Vegas and a true humanitarian who gives back to the community through deeply heartfelt and meaningful actions" [and by parking his gas-guzzling suv where the heck he pleases, while concurrently introducing legislation to "create a cleaner Nevada for our children"]

What a turd!

We will NOT run out of water. Water may become very expensive but we will not run out. If it means desalinating and pumping from California, that's what the valley will do. If it means constructing a 3000-mile pipeline from the Hudson, that's what we'll do. New York gets so much rain it overwhelms their sewer system on a regular basis. Country-wide, we don't have a shortage issue, we've got an allocation issue.

Regarding what Northerners think of Southerners, I disagree. Northern (and rural for that matter) Nevada wants little more than to be recognized. Most Las Vegans have never been north of Indian Springs, if that!

Marte,
I think the 1% you complain of are over-represented in the comments section. I agree with you mostly. I tend to drive 5-10 over on surface streets.
It is true that there are passive aggressive folks who go slow in the left lane just to exercise their control. Much of the tailgating I see, however, is just overly aggressive, dangerous driving.
I only drive in the fast lane when I'm going the fastest, or when I need to make a left turn somewhere in the next mile.
The tailgating that drives me nuts:
1) One-lane roads when I'm already at or above the speed limit.
2) Any road where there's someone in front of me in the lane going slower than I am. Where am I supposed to go? I'm waiting too!
3) When there's another lane I can be passed in, like when I'm planning a left turn and the right two lanes are empty.
4) When NOBODY is GOING ANYWHERE, like heavy traffic. Yeah, I know I'm 10mph under, but so are the hundreds of other cars all around us. No matter how important or frustrated you are, tailgating me doesn't make traffic disappear.
5) When I'm going slow for a reason, like I see an ambulance/police car or it's raining or there's 5 kids walking side-by-side that I don't feel like hitting. Maybe if you were paying attention you'd notice the hazard too.
6) ANYTIME I'm in the right lane.
7) When the tailgater is doing something else dangerous, like talking on a cell phone.

There is malicious tailgating just like there's malicious speeding. But most people do it just because they're inattentive or don't think it's dangerous.

But, as reasonable minds differ, I can't agree with your expectation that comedy shows should be conducted like church services. They more closely resemble mosh pits; it's just the way it is.

MG,
Your comment displays the sort of narcissistic reasoning that makes the roads so dangerous in the first place.

Dear Mr. Sun,

Why does it take you 1-2 weeks to post each column? Seems like this could be a daily feature.

And once the mussels are all consumed by the new fish, we can release wave after wave of sharks and baracuda to eat the newly invasive fish.
Time to start issuing steel mesh gloves to divers and paying bounties by the pound.

Judging by the comments I suppose sometimes its okay to speak ill of the dead. The cyclists were in the wrong and they paid the price. It's over for them. Let's hope the driver makes a full recovery and the case is investigated thoroughly.
Emvance, sorry to hear they never caught the driver who victimized you. It is a constant source of pain to me to see wicked people prevail. When I had my daughter I stopped riding. I don't trust a single driver in Las Vegas. Even in my small car, half the drivers out there are driving vehicles that would flatten me in a head-on crash. Lifted trucks especially, with headlights above my roof line and "smile as you go under" bumper stickers. Everybody's safety should be everybody's responsibility on the road, but I suppose that would be socialism, so it's every man for himself.

The banks aren't playing nice. Four months ago I saw a Fannie-owned house I liked listed at 216k and my (otherwise-useless) agent said it's worth 166k. We offered 166k and it was rejected. 2 months later the house sells for 160k. The broker working for the bank was playing games. He wouldn't talk to my broker and would only accept written offers. When our initial offer was rejected we were told to "start over" with a new written offer. Also, the bank's counter-offer was at asking price. That's 6 grand of your tax money down the drain because joe blow agent is a dummy.
