I will give them one year in CCSD. After they are harangued by administrators they will ALL want to leave for greener pastures. CCSD administrators just don't get it. They don't believe in "mentoring" newbies. What they do believe in is "tor-mentoring" these new folks. Of course next year Emily will have another batch of newbies with great ideas, smiles on their faces, and an abiding lack of foresight when it comes to working as teachers in CCSD.

Good luck, newbies. You will need it.

Deanna Wright does NOT belong on the school board. Neither does Garvey. These two ladies (???) thought it would be nice to be in control. Unfortunately two stalwart candidates - Ron Taylor and Eddie Goldman - were scuttled by the powers-that-be in CCSD and CCEA. I guess the next time these two BOZOS run for an office we will be on guard to make sure they don't make it out of the primaries.

BTW - Everyone has a right to speak at the school board meetings. If Wright can't stand the heat, she should get out of the kitchen.

Look closely at Dina's outfit. When she was a state senator and an educator at UNLV, she ALWAYS wore that Nevada brooch. Now that she has become part of the Washington aristocracy and a loyal supporter of Reid and Pelosi, she has conveniently forgotten that her FIRST loyalties should be with Nevada. I can't wait to vote this lady out of office.

I am for evaluating teachers, but for the most part administrators are UNFAIR when it comes to evaluations. Here's a novel idea -- why not have teachers evaluate administrators. I can tell you right now many of the administrators in this district should return to the classroom for some extra seasoning. Unfortunately, the ADMINISTRATORS ASSOCIATION rules the district and this action would NEVER occur. Hey Emily, why not ask teachers how they would like to evaluate administrators. I am sure you would get an earful. (BTW - CCEA conducts annual surveys regarding administrators, but the results are carefully hidden from view. Why, CCSD wants it that way, And what does CCEA get for keeping the results secret???? $150K. With that kind of money, I would keep my trap shut, too.)

Here's an idea. Why doesn't the Jackson family purchase one of the Station Casinos and they can rename it --- Molest-Station Casino, Hotel, and Fun Park for the Kiddies. It's just a thought......

To LV Music Teacher -- CCEA did NOT win that battle to preserve salary increases and step raises. That was won by the Administrators' Association telling Ruffles and the school board they would not work a day a month for free. CCSD did not want to fight this UNION. So CCEA rode the coattails of administrators. Perhaps you should step into the shade and cool off before you start defending CCEA and its leadership (now that's a misnomer....)

" ..... weaker the membership in the organization, the more teachers are treated as somehow property rather than as professionals. "

Kate,

You are now in Clark County. You will now see CCEA in bed with CCSD. And who suffers for it? The rank and file teachers. You will see first-hand how teachers are mistreated in this school district, and you will see how the CCEA upper-echelon is rewarded for its collective silence. ---- BTW - You're not in Kansas anymore....... Enjoy your stay; I predict you will be here for 2-3 years.

July 15 is the last day for current CCEA members to resign from CCEA.

Superintendent offers to forgo raise for time off

http://www.lvrj.com/news/13793967.html

Response:

I know that very few, if any of us on here are ready to go give Superintendent Rulffes a pat on the back because he so generously decided to forego his raise and accept vacation days instead. According to their contract, administrators are given two vacation days per contract month. Because the superintendent's contract is for 12 months, he accrues 24 vacation days/year. In case you don't know, administrators don't have the same calendar as teachers. They don't get the entire winter or spring breaks off, etc. This is why they get vacation days.
Here's the good part...are you ready? They are only allowed to bank 80 vacation days. At the end of the fiscal year (June 30) any administrator who has accumulated more than 80 days of unused vacation days, is paid their DAILY RATE OF PAY for each day with a maximum of 20 days. Anything above the 100 days is lost.
So...let's look at some figures. According to the article, he makes $300,000/year. His contract is for 12 months, which I understand is 248 days (365 minus 52 weekends, minus holidays). So, what is his daily rate of pay? Drum rolll - - $1209.67/day. If he is given EXTRA days, and if he already has 100 days accumulated, his twenty extra days will result in a payment of $24,193.40. A four percent raise from his current $300,000/year would only be $12,000.

Gee, thanks Walt! Thanks for being a martyr to the cause and not taking the pay raise. Appreciate ya!

The prices of cafeteria food go up and some administrators' pay is also increased..... Yeah, pass the mustard. (I have NEVER seen any administrators eating in the cafeteria; they send their secretaries out to purchase lunches from AppleBee's or Chilis.)
