I think if we all looked at where all the cabs were driving when they are empty...not on the strip but on Industrial and other side roads, it is very easy to see that cabs are not using the most efficient ways between hotels etc for passengers, but only for themselves. They will only use the fast route if it is longer in distance and worth it to them (i.e. the infamous tunnel long haul)

We are willing to build the train to nowhere (Victorville) but unwilling to connect the strip to the airport (which is one of the things I love about Atlanta)

Who owns Las Vegas? The cab companies. I commute the 215 daily and see more long hauls than I can shake a stick at because I know cabbies are hedging that the authority wont be watching.

What is so fair to riders now?

I myself got long hauled just before I moved here It was to the Luxor and dropped off on the wrong side of the building.

Idling $$ crapola...cabbies take the slowest routes just so they can idle forever on the strip.

The sheer fact that all the locals are on the side streets along with the EMPTY cabs making good time to try to get to thier next fare tells you they are abusing the system.

They have too much power as shown by when they clogged the strip honking in protest over losing their kickbacks from clubs. So the city gave in and continue them to practice an ILLEGAL kickback.

At the very least there should be one flat fare for the airport to strip since that is the most abused part of the system.

"The county has about 180 employees in management positions"
______________________________

FOUL! there are more than that for sure. Only 180 managers in 12,000 employees? 1 out of 66 employees? I do not know who they include, but they should include the hundreds and hundreds of useless Supervisor positions that sit between Management and the actual workers and whom do nothing except collect over $100,000 a year.

"The Clark County Commission this week will consider a "separation program" that will allow for managers to participate. "But we're also going to review our management structure across the county and see if there are areas where we can reorganize management and potentially eliminate management positions," Don Burnette, the county's chief administrative officer, said.

The county has about 180 employees in management positions, about 2.5 percent of its workforce. About 28 percent of the county's management positions are vacant."
-------------------------------------
I read the paperwork on their website.

First to voluntary program is offered to both management and non management.

Second, it includes an INVOLUNTARY separation program for management (read: layoffs) which is good because I know departments where over 30% of the staff is management and you hear management saying..."oh the separation program still isnt sweet enough...I will wait till it gets better when the County is really hard up" At least now they will be tossed out.

Third, the program DOES NOT INCLUDE the fire department which is made up of the most overpaid employees in the County who gave up ZERO, BUPKIS, NADA f their raises, educational reimbursements, COLAs, etc.

And yet again, the fire department comes out on top

Normally it is easier to do cost per sq ft as opposed to total house cost.

As far a $ per sq foot, the only places you see it exceed $150 is Summerlin and Sun City Anthem. SCA is stable due to its niche as a 55+ and the low foreclosures there. Summerlin because people are still willing to pay for a name.

"Clark County's management has forced steadily employed citizens into day labor. Lack of oversight by Clark County has resulted in waste of our tax dollars."

-----------------------------

dwma : What does day labor and the court system have to do with each other in the way you have written?? If you want to spout off about a unrelated topic find another venue rather than using it as a personal segway.

PS: Population increase does not correlate to crime, just ask Detroit whose population keeps dropping and crime keeps increasing.

Why you make $5 an hour and why I wont hire a day laborer, US Citizen or not.
_______________________________________

If a day laborer is injured on your property, he could sue you or seek to make a claim on your homeowners insurance policy.

Because some insurance companies have riders that prohibit payments to illegal workers, it might be a good idea to see what you are liable for before you head down this hiring route.
Whether a homeowners policy would cover an injured day worker depends on state workers-compensation law and whether any employer is required to have coverage.

Citizenship is not a factor.

If state laws do not apply, then a homeowner's liability and medical coverage may cover an accident.

The work won't be guaranteed. You cannot stop payment on the check because you have most likely paid in cash.

And you might not be able to locate the worker to complain or get a shoddy job fixed.

"One day, a man tried to hire a bunch of them for $5 an hour. Again, Buchanan pulled out the "citizen card." But this time, he was telling the other person that he, a U.S. citizen, knew about minimum wage laws, and was going to make sure those laws were followed. "I said, 'You want me to write down your license plate number?' " Buchanan recalled. The guy drove away.
----------------------------------
What Buchanan fails to see is that he is an unlicensed laborer, leaving the the person hiring him at risk for any injury that Buchanan sustains on the job, it also leaves the person hiring him with no warranty for his work etc.

If the person hiring him wanted to pay standard wages, hew ould go get a licensed contractor.

What Buchanan is doing is most likely working illegally even though he is a US citizen if he is doing any work that requires a license, which they usually do (landscaping, etc). So if the hiring homeowner is taking on so much risk, why should he pay minimum wage?

In addition, Buchanan can feel free to report the guys plate...then the first question will be....do you have a license to do the work you are doing Mr. Buchanan?

Why not just roll the $10 into the ticket price and not even say it is a fee or surcharge. Kinda like all the other charges.

Just charge for the ticket what it costs to travel with 2 bags, sit in a decent seat and eat a bit of food and use the bathroom on the plane.

THEN instead when people go online, offer a"discounts" tab after they choose their ticket and spin it all as discounts.... as in $10 off if you forgo food, $10 off if you only have one bag, $10 off if you choose a center seat, etc. And each time they choose to forgo something, their ticket gets cheaper. Makes you feel like your saving instead of being fee'd to death.

It is all how you sell it. Give a full price full service ticket and then let people discount it rather than giving a cheapa** ticket price then giving tons of surcharge options and fees.
