Mr. Toplikar,
I would recommend the following correction to this article: "The 41,000-square-foot museum is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of tourists [per year] to the downtown area [after] it opens."
Also, it's not clear in this article as to whether or not this is a non-profit museum. One might assume it is non-profit based on the tax credits and 300 Stewart Ave organization overseeing the museum. However, if it is not, then I think you might have a more interesting article regarding huge tax credits going to a for-profit museum during a time in which the city is in desperate need of tax revenues.
Welcome to the "Great Recession" UNLV! We are happy to hear you are joining the rest of us that have been making tough decisions and major budget cuts over the past 16 months, and continue to do so.
Our community fully supports UNLV, but we expect you to show leadership. Listening to those that whine and complain falls on deaf ears. Instead of any faculty suggesting UNLV deserves to be immune from any budget cuts, let's hear you talk about how you will make the necessary sacrifices and still produce leaders that will ensure our country does not face this "mess" again.
You can also remind us of how our standard of living is still far above any other country in the world, and (more importantly) that college education is a true honor and privilege, not a right.
@ SheetWise - Wynn is NOT making money in Las Vegas. In fact, in Q2 they lost over $17 million based on the July 21 article at http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/jul...
While I agree the "steal employees tips" comment is inane, be sure you get your facts correct when debating someone you refer to as pathetic.
Hey John - Maybe the assistant was "joking", or perhaps listening in does not baby-sitting make. Either way, by the time I got to that paragraph in the story, I sort of felt the same way (i.e. get off the copying subject). As you implied, you could probably write a similar story about most comedians having at least a few similar jokes as others. In fact, the best comedians create "original" jokes out of something they heard or saw as opposed to simply making it up from scratch.
For some, the "art" of comedy is originality. For most, it's about delivery, and that is where Mencia is one of the better comedians around.
For those that think he's not that funny, you probably have not seen him live, which is many times better than his TV specials.
I would suggest a better analogy than karaoke for Mencia might be American Idol. That is, the material may be very familiar, but there are a LOT of people that still enjoy hearing it.
Please, everyone, lighten up and (literally) get a sense of humor!

A report should be done on the PR geniuses behind the Occupy movement. Never have I seen a VERY SMALL group of protesters get so much media coverage. Power to the people, or very slow news days?
