You won't defend Tark because you can't. His record does stand for itself:
A very good coach that cheated, repeatedly.
As far as the Lute comment, it's not that Lute will not badmouth anyone, it's that those topics won't be talked about by Lute. The man is way to clean. Trust me.
Note: I never said Tark was a bad coach, I just find it funny and hypocritical that Tark is complaining about some others recruiting tactics/violations.
Rob,
3 teams, 3 programs that committed violations under Tarks watch. Hmmmm, coincidence?
After he left Long Beach State, its basketball program was slapped with probation for recruiting violations which occurred under his watch.
While at UNLV, NCCA banned UNLV from the 91 tourney, but the NCAA changed their mind and compromised, allowing the Rebels to defend their title and being banned a year later for the 92 tourney.
Following his retirement, Fresno State was placed on probation by the NCAA for violations committed by its men's basketball team under Tarkanian's watch.
Yes, he received a settlement form the NCAA, not for wrongful accusations, but for Harassment! The NCAA is guilty of tunnel vision, but not making up the violations.
Tark never really denied the violations, only that the NCAA was harassing him. The harassment, Tarkanian claimed, started when he wrote a newspaper column alleging that the NCAA was more willing to punish less-prominent schools than big-name schools. He admits to the violations, but was upset he was the only one getting caught?
Also, if the only thing 'Zona was doing was bad mouthing UNLV for Hookers and Mobs, then 'Zona was a lot cleaner than Tark. Badmouthing happens all the time, Lute gets a ton of it. "He's old", "he'll be dead before you get there", "he has Parkinson's", etc. It's a part of recruiting, it always has been.
It may have been 'Zona assistants saying those things, but Lute wouldn't dare say things about those topics. If you think he did, then you obviously don't know anything about Lute Olson.
Funny thing....
Tark is considered one of the dirtiest coaches.
Pot meet Kettle, keep him out of the HOF.

You're not getting my point about Lute.
Im saying he is clean in language/thought. The man doesn't even cuss, so I'm saying he wouldn't make claims about Hookers/Mobs. If you knew Lute, you would find it funny if someone thought Lute said it.
Not that Tark said it was Lute. But I wouldn't put it past some of our assistants.
And no, I don't think Lute is all clean, but I believe he runs a respectable program compared to most.
