Katin committing would be absolutely huge for the future of this program. He is such a dynamic player.
With the Mendenhall Center construction in full swing and the facility really starting to take shape and approach the completion stage, it's a great time to have recruits on campus.
Katin was very appreciative of all the UNLV fans going to his games and showing support. Class act all the way.
Hope he becomes a Runnin' Rebel!
bballfan,
Sorry, but I've seen enough WITH MY OWN EYES to know that you are crazy or a hater if you're "not sold on Shabazz."
You know who is "sold" on Shabazz? The HEAD COACHES for Duke, UCLA, UofA, Kentucky, Kanasas, etc... Is it ok to assume they know what they're talking about?
"most importantly being that he will only stick around 1 year. That does UNLV very little good and it doesn't raise our stock any that UNLV landed the #1 recruit since he already lives here and is essentially from here."
Very little good??? You couldn't be more wrong with all of that. Utter nonsense. Not going to go into breaking down everything that's outrageously off base with that statement, but suffice to say the people who do this for a living and know what they are talking about are "sold" on Shabazz despite what you and your favorite internet blogger might think.
Overhyped???
He's the #1 overall recruit in the country. And that's according to NATIONAL recruitng services who sure know a lot more than you.
And did you actually just type "like really" in a sentence?
"he can guarantee himself a chance to go to the big dance by going to a big time program like Duke or UCLA"
No he can't.
ucla FAILED TO MAKE the ncaa tournament as recently as the '09-'10 season! bruins were 14-18 that season. They also missed the ncaa tourney in back to back years in 2002 and 2003. They didn't even make the NIT in any of the three LOSING seasons mentioned.
Your ignorance is on display, Sinatra.
I imagine he'd for sure start while Stanback is serving whatever suspension he receives.
If he consistantly plays like he did at FirstLook last year, I can't see how they keep Moser out of the starting line up...
This is a loaded team. And it will be even more so once Smith is eligible in the second semester.
Whoever the starters end up being, they better not get complacent or develop a sense of entitlement.
If anyone lags, there will be another very tallented player ready to step up and take their spot. Hopefully that translates to everyone playing at a high level.
lol at nit lobos chiming in. mad 'cause UNLV showed 'em up in abq. No matter who UNLV hired, you get to look forward to being Kendall Wallaced again next year for UNLV's third consecutive win in the "mighty" armpit.
DR will do a great job. Welcome home.
"the devil's brigade"
HAHAHAHAHA
Are you the mom from the movie Carrie?
You sound like it.
So you hate Vegas. You and you're emotionally scarred son barely escaped with your lives from 'sin city' and you will never return. But yet you're reading the sports section of a Vegas paper and commenting on UNLV Football???
Doesn't add up. Like I said, you're just a Vegas hater with multiple sign ons here to spread around your bitterness.
All you tailgaters watch out for the crazy zealots!
Had fun at the game.
I will give this staff a chance and not scream that 'the sky is falling' after one game vs. a ranked opponent.
And lol at the 'socially conscious' observer (and their multiple sign ons) who are outraged enough to come post on an anonymous internet forum. Way to do your part! Hope you feel good about yourself for taking that stand. Maybe next game you should take the next step and make some citizen's arrests...
Old, uptight, sanctimonious, hypocrite busy bodies. You think tailgating at UNLV games is bad??? All you're here to do is pile on the 'sin city' stereo type. Go ahead and send your kids to the Big Twen or $ec to tailgate if you're sooooo fearful of the EVIL UNLV tailgates.... I'm sure there won't be shenanigans or under age drinking.
construction has started!
i think it will be finished within a year.

Very cool.
I hadn't heard anything about this and was hoping the team would be able to take advantage of being able to practice and play on an international trip.
Cool side note:
This trip becomes a recruiting tool for 2012 class. Thanks to a recent change in the ncaa rules, incoming freshmen are now allowed to go on the international trip. Austin Rivers played with dook in China this summer.
Find out what countries Shabazz is fond of! LOL
