Be honest. Las Vegas is a small town with a big population. But, the people living here are little more than an afterthought to the overlords in the casinos, and the county commission and city council chambers. Las Vegas is here to do one thing: make money. It does so by duping stupid tourists into thinking they have a fair shake (I think Jeff Haney had something to say on that recently) at the tables and are partying like rockstars; coaxing them into spending like a poet on payday for that non-existent "Vegas experience." No writer has yet to come up with a better description than Hunter Thompson of what people do when they come to Las Vegas: "humping the American dream."

What kind of pablum is this? "Sleekly modern" and "breathtaking contribution"... is this a news story or a press release from the Newseum? I suppose, with the Greenspun connection, it technically is more of a release than actual editorial coverage.

And, FWIW, the general consensus among those who are not financially vested in the project is that the Newseum embodies all that is wrong with the media today. Instead of using money for payroll—maybe bring in some more writers so people can spend time developing their stories and photographers don't have to snap horribly forced portrait shots all day long—media companies, who openly complain about how little money they are making, use it to build a mausoleum.
