It will be interesting to see how Hamga's career turnouts. Time will tell if the recruiting "experts" blew it or not. I will say the revolving door of players exiting the program the past couple of years is a bit troubling. I know it happens everywhere but not at the rate it seems to be happening with us.
Nice to see RR step up with a big game in a much needed win. I am still a bit concerned about the offense in general though, hopefully it will improve over time. Now that these two road hurdles have been overcome the upcoming UofA game is going to be huge for our NCAA resume.
With the exception of the Louisville game which I just can't see a win, this makes the Arizona game and all of the rest of the non-conference games must wins if we are to get an at-large bid. A couple of more slip ups out of conference is going to make winning the MWC tourny a must.
Rob, Tuesday night I saw the Tre'von Willis I had hoped to see from the very beginning. Quick of the dribble blowing by defenders and knocking down outside shots. Hopefully it will be a trend that continues. Actually seeing them in action for the first I was obviously impressed with the guard play and it was great to see them come back from some adversity on the road. The one negative, which didn't really surprise me as I have expected it from the beginning of practice was the lack of interior scoring.
It is a bit difficult for me to get a sense as to where the team is at right now. So far they have taken care of business but ideally they should have. As Grayback said we will really start to get a feel/understanding of the team over the next few games as the competition level obviously rises. I'm just glad I can finally get to see them and I believe GA is doing color to boot.
Definately a bit disappointing considering USD was missing some key players, especially Pomare who is a real force down low. I was expecting a more comfortable win. It seems like this team could struggle some early in the season but hopefully everything will come together come conference time. So far both Willis and Beas have been let downs. Hopefully they can turn it around as I was expecting big things from both.
This is interesting and exciting news all in one. On one hand it is clearly exciting that a big time top ten caliber prospect is interested in UNLV. It shows the success of the past two seasons is being recognized by recruits which is great news. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
On the other hand it is interesting especially as others have already mentioned that we do not have any scholarships remaining. Obviously something could be in the works I do not know about but if something is not you kind of have to question the staff using up scholarships so fast and not holding on to at least one for circumstances such as this.
The staff would really have a catch 22 if Sidney were to want to come as on one hand how do you turn down such a talented player (especially a low post talented player) who could be that type of LJ missing piece, but likewise as others have discussed it paints the staff in a bad light if they have to pull a scholarship from someone who has already verballed. That is never good and could have an impact down the road. Maybe there is another Rene on the squad who would be willing to pay their way:) I guess this is what makes recruiting so interesting.
One thing that did stand out to me is the father's comments. I do not know enough about Sidney to make a definative judgement, but based on his need to be wanted (receive daily phone calls) I hope he is not the typical young player of today who is all about himself. As we have seen they are not the type of player who fits in well with what Coach Kruger is after.
