'... the democrats and liberals have totally screwed up the economy....'

This is a joke, right?"

I wish it were. The Democrats have had control of Congress since 2004. Since 2009 they have been in control of EVERYTHING and look what they have done.

As mentioned earlier, the GOP is not blameless, but what we are seeing now is Chicago politics writ large, along with a dash of fascism, i.e. FDR Part II.

If anyone thinks 2009 was bad, wait until 2010 when the Alt-A and commercial mortgages reset and Son of Stimulus is proposed - and rubber-stamped by the left wing loons now in power. Can you spell D-E-P-R-E-S-S-I-O-N children?

leftiebob sez: "The party of "no" didn't support it and seemed to say they wanted nothing to do with it."
Ye Gods, man, they didn't support it because it was simply a payoff to obama's (small 'o' intentional) union buddies, political hacks, and Wall Street backers. While the GOP is not blameless in this mess, the Democrats have made it even worse.

environprotector is spot on. Back in the '90s I fought NAFTA tooth and nail as it was obvious it was nothing but a gambit for cheap labor making goods selling at American prices and enriching the companies. I wrote countless CEOs, as well as my politicians telling them that this "move our factories overseas" bit was National Suicide. Besides losing the technical/manufacturing skills this country needed, these short-sighted idiots were laying off each others' customers. I asked them who would be able to buy their products if everybody was on a Service Economy subsistence wage. No answer, but hey, the CEOs got their Golden Parachutes while the workers got their pink slips.

It's all finally come home to roost and Vegas is in the front lines as the ranks of those with expendable income continue to shrink. And then we have obama compounding the misery by telling people to stay away. Hope and Change has turned out to be Hoax and Chains. Those who voted for obama were sold a bill of goods on many levels - the puppets come and go but those who pull the strings remain.

The headline writer left out "illegal" in the title. Surely just an oversight (ahem).

"Nearly 10,000 construction workers filed unemployment claims statewide in February. Illegal immigrants don’t qualify for those benefits, or for welfare or food stamps."
But their Anchor Babies do.

"Godinez and many other workers interviewed for this story say the shrinking residential construction industry is only partly to blame for their plight. They mention state and federal laws making it harder for employers to hire illegal immigrants."
The victim mentality and sense of entitlement here is unbelievable. How dare we attempt to enforce our laws?

Martinez has been here 12 years and Eric wants to learn English and teach it to dad? Why doesn't dad know English by now and why isn't Eric already bilingual?
I suspect it is because dad worked only with other Hispanics, mostly illegal, and there was no reason to learn English - or to assimilate.

Best line in the whole article: "Erika Chavira, manager at the bus station, says about half her passengers have been buying one-way tickets to Mexico in recent months."

But didn't previous article here state that "there were too many to deport", ignoring the obvious in that many would self-deport when they could no longer use this country as an ATM machine?
