I am not a member of this union so I am not commenting as such but find it highly selfish for those who are probably already topped out and receiving their longevity pay to throw the younger members "under the bus". Remember, one day these younger members will be in control of the union, making decisions for the senior members who are now are retired members.
As long as we bow to these billion dollar companies and buy their products that are designed and manufactured elsewhere, we can't gripe about our poor economy, unemployment, etc.
Replace Wright Elementary School with most any Elementary School and the story is the same. I have seen many times, at my son's school, where people do stupid and dangerous things right in front of School Police and they do nothing. I don't have a solution but if more people teamed up and "called out" the jackholes, it would be a start.
Davy, you are ignorant but before you get all irate, look up the definition. As a former FF I do know that FFs do more than "just running fire calls". I looked up the stats for the department and the CCFD had over 120k calls. Divide this among the total number of stations and you have an average. Of course there are slow and busy stations. Maybe you happen to live near a slow one. Wouldn't you think it criminal for your FD to show up on an emergency scene with missing/broken equipment? This is why FFs check their equipment and FFs, believe it or not, have pride in their equipment is why you always see them polishing their rigs... after all they understand that they are just stewards with *your* equipment. Now, as a former FF I find it disgraceful to have FFs who are lazy and have a feeling of entitlement whereas they abuse the trust we give them. For this small percentage I think they need to be appropriately managed. This "inside source story" I consider too premature to begin spouting off as many have. What is the discipline for the sixteen? Is it more than one terminated? Would the termination number have been higher but many of the abusers retired?? etc, etc, etc.
Judy... I agree. I am doing the ethical thing by staying in my home even though our family has outgrown it. I can afford a new home but can't sell the one I am in anywhere close to what I owe on it. I can't even lease it for what I pay monthly on it.

They were just responding to reported gunfire too. THIS is why police officers act the way they do. Our society is pockmarked with psychopaths who don't have signs above their heads stating such. Yes, there are bad cops but overall we have a majority of them who are in harm's way to keep us safe.
Very sad for all those impacted. Commenting on Las Vegas roads in general and not this incident, the roads of Las Vegas are not pedestrian friendly... even in crosswalk areas. Driving the non-major roads where crosswalks are present at intersections without traffic signals, these areas are not lit in a manner to easily see pedestrians. Add to this rainy conditions and dark clothing it's inevitable that something tragic will happen. I consider myself hyper-vigilant when it comes to looking for pedestrians but there are occasions when oncoming headlights have "blinded" me to where I haven't seen one waiting to cross, where by law I was supposed to yield to them or because of poor lighting and dark clothing I didn't see them in time to yield. Again, this is when I am looking for them. Imagine when a driver is distracted? Hope next year doesn't have so many auto vs. pedestrian articles.
We live in a day and age when you cannot confront people. Wouldn't it be nice to go back to the day when someone did you wrong, and when you confronted them if they said something arrogant other than sorry "I screwed up, I'm sorry" they were yanked from their vehicle and throttled? Now, bad behavior is rewarded with doing nothing because of (warranted) fear.
Hmmm. The firefighter stories have been out of the news for awhile now and it's been nice. I guess the arbitration date is approaching so the RJ/Sun needs to beat the horse again.
