Nice post lv2gen, I echo it and add, every, single, detailed fact is rarely included in a news article but 'about' everyone, sane or otherwise, understands that when you wield a weapon at ANY officer, the outcome usually results in this.

SteveM... There have been a rash of Police involved accidents (or whatever you want to call them). When you give a young person a high-performance vehicle and all the do-dads inside of them that cause distractions and then an occasional burst of adrenaline bads things can happen. But to say "out of control"? I would venture to say that if the RJ or Sun posted an article every time there was any accident that's all the paper would have in it. Because the accident involved a police officer is why it's news-worthy. Heck, I bet a police officer running over an animal would make the paper. I've seen some minor traffic infractions made by Metro officers but it pales in comparison to the number of infractions we all do on a daily basis, on purpose or not.

Sure they should probably take a hit like most everyone else in the valley has taken but I am beginning to wonder by the over abundance of articles on this subject is a smear campaign.

This article does make a good point when it said that once the economy rebounds concessions given up are not usually restored. Like I said, maybe they should give up their increase but maybe they have their reasons... and it may not be greed like the "every other day" articles make it sound.

109MPH vehicle at almost 2 in the morning with no lights or siren (like that would have mattered) and they are pursuing possible failure to yield charges?? Metro needs to provide better training and let this go because it's going to be a waste of our taxpayer money trying to pursue anything against Mr. Darling. Honor Officer Manor by making sure it does not happen again. The next time it could be my family, or yours.

A lot has been written and said about a story that contained the word allegedly. We are all quick to judge after reading a story in the newspaper or seeing a story in the news without realizing that these mediums are just churning out stories without 100% fact. Let this play out in the forum it's designed for, which isn't here.

One fact that all of us drivers need to realize is the reduction in reaction times with the increase in speed. Remember, most of us learned this back in our teens?

At 45 MPH (speed limit on most city streets) we're traveling 61.3 fps while at 70 MPH (which I see a lot of drivers doing) we're traveling 95.4 fps. Remember this the next time someone turns in front of you or pulls out of a parking lot into your lane. Cars are not installed with radar guns and computers to calculate the "can I make it", it's totally up to our mental calculations. Speed limits are set for a reason, and that's not to see who far we can exceed it.
