Just as everyone prefers to be called a particular way and to have their name pronounced correctly, so does the State of Nevada. So Lenny_V, you are incorrect. It has been my personal campaign these last several years, since I've had a home computer, to tell people how the name of our State is pronounced, and it is pronounced nuh-VADD-uh, and NOT nuh-Vodd-uh.
And as for the Harry Reid ad through NEA, I also wrote to them and a change was made in the pronunciation. I'd like to feel that I was personally responsible for that!
I take it that destruct_mutt is a research scientist working in the field of genetics, by his latest comment. There is no "gene" that causes homosexuality, but rather a combination of things, most likely amounts of progesterone and testosterone in vitro. Homosexuality is NOT a "lifestyle choice", just as heterosexuality is not a "lifestyle choice". Who in their right mind would "choose" to have a life where you are despised, debased and derided on an almost daily basis in the press and on Faux News? Who would "choose" to be ostracized and shunned by your family and friends?
I have many, many friends who are homosexual, and they are intelligent, well-rounded, happy individuals who lead exciting and productive lives. THAT is the part of their "lifestyle" that they chose! In that many of them had to overcome the bigotry that is so prevalent in their lives, their journey has been all the more remarkable.
I take it mutt, that if your child were to come out to you as homosexual you would probably disown this child. And for that I say "Shame on you!" And by shaming you, I also shame all those parents (Mormons most prevalent among them) who have disowned their children. Too often we have heard parents of murderers and rapists being interviewed, and among their comments is "At least he's not gay!" How pathetic is that?
Ziser is just a carpet bagger looking to get a foot-hold in Nevada. He has been run out of every other state where he attempted to bring his personal brand of biggotry to the ballot box.
As for abortion: unless you are a female of child-bearing age, this subject is off limits to you! Would not the men who are posting on here be upset if women had harsh and negative opinions on Viagra and erectile dysfuntion?
If you are against abortion - don't get one!
Holy sh*t! Redneck, you could not be more wrong about the motives for the killing of Matthew Shephard! It was an afterthought that the murderers of this boy stole his sneakers. To you that makes it a robbery and not a gay bashing? You are truly deluded! The boy was so horrbly beaten (pistol whipped) that the sheriff's deputy who found him didn't even know it was a human being, much less a child!
"The Laramie Project" has already been presented by a HS in the Valley; Las Vegas Academy put it on several years ago to much acclaim. But, like redneck, Fred Phelps and his merry band of bigots protested the production.
As for the comments on AIDS, they are also incorrect. Seventy percent (70%) of AIDS cases world-wide are heterosexual in nature. Of those, 70% are female. These numbers can be confirmed through the CDC, and I didn't pull them out of my *ss, like redneck does with his statistics.
To anyone who has not seen "The Laramie Project" either on the stage or on film, I suggest that you rent it, as it is on DVD. If you can walk away from this movie and not be truly moved, then you are, indeed, a REDNECK!
In a way I have to agree with redneck 43: a majority of abortions ARE used as a means of birth control, for whatever reason, as explained by correa. But until the time when birth control is affordable and easily accessible, we will continue to see large numbers of abortions. But to try to stop a woman (and her partner/spouse) from obtaining an abortion because of YOUR particular religious beliefs has no bearing on the argument. As we (luckily) STILL have separation of church and state, this argument is out of line. I am completely against trying to impose religious doctrine on human acts, be they abortion or gay rights.
And I have to also agree with Bob635: anyone who opposes abortions and would force a woman to carry a baby to term, should then be financially reponsible for the care and feeding of that child until they can support themselves. Denying abortion is forcing more poverty on the lower classes as the wealthy will ALWAYS have access to abortions.
So many of these hate-filled comments use god in their references, yet what civil unions and domestic partnerships are doing are based on civil law and NOT canonical law. If somone wants to get married in the church of their choosing, they must first have a license issued by the State, and NOT by the church.
What so many of these hate-mongers are forgetting is the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, wherein it guarantees equal protection under the law. This equal protection extends to ALL citizens, and not just those who are heterosexual, or white, or christian, or rich.
If ANYONE can come up with a reason why domestic partnerships or gay marriages should not take place and NOT mention the bible, I would be interested in hearing it. Marriage, in and of itself, is not a religious institution; it is determined and sanctioned by the State.
Dear Wayne,
You had your time in the sun, but that time has come and gone. Really, Wayne, it's time to hang it up and go quietly into the sunset. Your voice has been gone for years, and the dye-job is a little over done, and the plastic surgery is distorting your face.
Wayne: "Danke Shein", but please, no more!
I haven't given any money to the MDA foundation for several years, not since I found out that 85% of the money they take in is for over-head. Most charities run at 15% over-head. Until MDA can get their finances in order, I have chosen to not contribute. There are plenty of other charities that also need my money, and they run their organizations more efficiently.
Do the Republicans really think that someone named "Danny" can represent the State of Nevada in the US Senate? His background is that he owns a basketball camp! Shouldn't he have worked his way up in public service from say, dog catcher? Give me a break!
As for Sue Lowden, well, our casinos will do well under her tutelage. She is truly a one-trick pony.

What gets me is not only the outrageous ticket prices that many of these performers charge, but that they just accumulate all this money and give nothing back to the communities that made them famous - and rich! This applies to not only country performers but to ALL performers.
Celine Dion made tens-of-millions of dollars in Las Vegas, yet she gave nothing back to us: no scholarships, no money to charities, NOTHING! The same with Sigfried and Roy.
I've read that Larry the Cable Guy is one of the highest paid performers in the country, yet I've not read anything about his charitable contributions. Schools all over the country are in dire shape and in great need of books, computers and regular supplies. Yet nothing from Larry, or Sigfried, or Roy, or Celine, or Reba, or Garth. Where's the love, guys?
