According to the few people still working at the Las Vegas Sun... it's because we aren't being taxed nearly enough.

Seriously... it's funny that mred would say the RJ is at fault for people in Nevada being unhappy. At least they are still in business which is saying a lot considering the efforts of the past few legislative sessions.

As for dwms' comment about "the 280% increase in children's murders" - 1, what are you talking about? 2, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Journey is high (LOL)

This won't help Vegas. Without meaningful rescinding of the tax increases of the last 3 sessions to bring back business, you can turn Vegas over - it's done.

If this thing IS going to be built, it should be the maglev train - not another 100+ year old choo choo technology. Also, it should be done with PRIVATE money, not public money.

"because job growth won't return until 2011 and foreclosures will depress rents, according to a local brokerage."

ROFL!!! OMG... that is a good one. Job growth isn't returning in 2011 - and if it does at all, it will be very short lived. Sen. Stephen Horsford has big plans for a corporate tax, so that will be about it for job growth returning EVER.

This is such a non-event I can't believe anyone is still talking about it. A couple media-whores went to a rubber chicken dinner. *yawn* I mean, really? Maybe this event was special, but it is not that hard to be invited to events where the President appears. Gee... and look how threatening the blonde chick is! (LOL)

If someone really wanted to get this President - or any previous one, they could have just done it.

I think the President is safe from the reality show people. I give them kudos for having the balls to pull that off. I agree with Titus on the "bold" part, but as for it being "tacky", the only thing tacky about it is actually WANTING to be there at such a BS butt-kiss-fest. The secret service should give this couple a medal for exposing holes in their security.

You won't see an increase in the gaming tax in Nevada because big gaming made it's deals with the public employee unions and has installed all of its shills in the legislature to do their bidding - and that includes raising sales, room, property and any other taxes that aren't the gaming tax.

While some casinos are hurting financially, they wouldn't be had they not lobbied to legalize gaming in other states, spent money they made in Nevada to build casinos there, and been paying the gaming taxes in those states. They created their own competition and their own problem.
