My oldest son is currently enrolled in UNLV because he received the millennial scholarship. My second son chose an out of state university last year because the tuition was cheaper. My daughter who will graduate from HS this year is not even looking in-state because of high prices. Now my oldest son has been shopping out of state too and this increase, combined with our current financial situation, makes going out of state next year a better deal even with the millennial scholarship.
Raising tuition in the face of declining enrollment goes against all reason and logic. If Smatresk thinks they're spread thin now, wait till this next hike in tuition forces more families like mine to abandon Nevada schools.
Being the "dominant producer" of degrees doesn't mean diddly and smacks of academic elitism, an attitude which is not very smart in this current market and may eventually lead to getting the c**p kicked out of your PHDs.
I say, good riddance to educators and a system that makes these kind of decisions.

If you want to see just how much "clout" Harry Reid has demonstrated the past 12 years, check out the federal aid to states at http://www.census.gov/prod/www/abs/fas.h....
Nevada has been 49th, 50th or 51st every year! So much for Reid's power and seniority. It would appear he squandered his influence in the Senate doing his master's bidding rather than focusing on helping the good people of Nevada.
Good grief Mr. Sands, how can you even make your argument with a straight face. You're either a comedian or an ignoramus.

Come on Libs. You need to decide what will really happen if Angle is elected. In one breath you say that she and her extreme views are going to tip the world on its end, and then in your next breath you say she will have absolutely no clout and be totally ineffectual. Which is it? Satan's spawn or the epitome of impotence?
Unless you have a crystal ball, you really don't know do you? The very thought that she might actually represent the will of her constituency instead of President Obama's and Nancy Pelosi's agenda is enough to take a chance on her. Five votes in my house for Angle!

I hope they find her alive and well.
BTW, Fowl play is for birds.
Foul play is nefarious.

I've read many of your past posts.
Thank goodness your brain damage was not "extensive"?

In addition...If the county really wanted to make "Grime" pay.
They could charge a 2 cent deposit on every handbill and pay people 1 cent for redeeming them. There should be enough money left over to save or create a county job or two. The printed materials could be recycled.

Here's a serious solution!
Enact a laws that requires adult businesses to pay a 1 cent per card deposit for the privelege of handing out printed items on the strip and then offer that 1 cent back at a smut redemption center.
All the homeless people could go around picking up old cards and cashing them in to make booze and cigarette money.
Any cards kept by tourists would mean that the county could keep that deposit which could then go into a fund to help prostitutes wanting to escape from their pimps and the escort lifestyle.
No first amendment rights trampled, cleaner streets, income for the indigent and smut dealers fairly charged to pay the costs of cleaning up the litter they produce.
Sounds fair to me!

Two men moved to a city. The first man asked the mayor what the people in the town were like. The mayor asked him what the people in his previous town were like and he said they were all unfriendly, dishonest scoundrels who were totally worthless. They Mayor said, "thats what the people in this town are like."
The second man asked the same question and the mayor asked him in return what the people in his previous town were like. He replied that they were all friendly, warm, honest upright citizens, to which the mayor replied, "the people in this town are the same."
A person's perception of others has more to do with what's inside their head than what's outside their door.

VegasReno:
Don't bite the hands that feed you. You need us more than we need you. The North has benefitted disproportionately from the growth in the South. If we seceded, you'd suffer the most. As far as the State capital being in Carson, that was an 1869 decision that in today's environment appears just plain foolish and costs taxpayers untold thousands in extra travel and accomodation expenses. We've moved past horse and buggy, but we still operate out of Carson. It has become a case of the tail wagging the dog.

Wake up Clark County! This is not a new story. This has happened for years, especially with federal formula money. Once a federal allocation is received by the state administering agencies, distribution formulas are often ignored. With more than 70% of the population, Southern Nevada should receive at least 70% of all federal monies, but Carson City Bureaucrats with their hands on the purse strings seem to find a way (and a rationale) to keep the dollars close to home and in the pockets of their Washoe county cronies.
